China and Kazakhstan have reached consensus on a series of issues this year, 18 years after the two countries established diplopmatic relations.Jia appealed to the two sides to increase high-level visits, boost substantial cooperation between the two reciprocal economies, promote people-to-people contact and humanitarian exchange, especially on the organization of events such as the Asian Games in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou and the Asian Winter Games in Kazakhstan in January.He called for further security cooperation between the two countries and among the members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), urging the two states to exert greater effort in fighting the three evil forces of terrorism, separatism and extremism.China will also enhance coordination and cooperation with Kazakhstan within multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations, the SCO and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), in a bid to safeguard common interests and cope with global and regional challenges, Jia said.Muhamedjanov agreed with Jia, saying that Kazakhstan will tap potential for bilateral cooperation in such sectors as energy, environmental protection, agriculture and cross-border water resources.

BEIJING, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang has urged more efforts to maintain steady and rapid economic growth and accelerate the transformation of the economic development pattern over the next five years.Li made the remarks Wednesday at a seminar on goals and policies of China's key 12th Five-year (2011-2015) Plan, according to a statement by the State Council, or China's Cabinet, on Thursday.At the seminar, the State Council solicited advice from senior officials of Tianjin Municipality, Jilin, Jiangsu, Henan, Yunnan and Gansu provinces, on the draft of the guidelines of the five-year plan.After listening to suggestions from provincial-level officials, Vice Premier Li said it is imperative for local governments to accelerate the transformation of the economic development pattern, while maintaining steady and rapid economic growth in the long term to benefit all Chinese people.As for the work next year, Li said local governments should more actively and prudently handle the relationship between keeping steady and rapid economic development, restructuring the economy and managing inflation expectations."More efforts should be provided to stabilize prices next year," he told the seminar.When planning goals and strategies for the development over the next five years, Li said, major indicators, such as the economic growth rates, should be defined "reasonably" and binding targets should be emphasized.Over the next five years, China will open wider to the outside world, expand its domestic consumption, push the reform of the income distribution system, create more jobs and improve its basic public service and social security system, he said.Li noted that local governments should work hard to allow residents' income growth to keep pace with the economic growth rate, and assure that laborers' wage hikes reflect productivity increases.

BEIJING, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- China has sent three warships to escort a Chinese cargo ship that had been attacked earlier by pirates in the Arabian Sea near Oman, the China Maritime Search and Rescue Center (CMSRC) said Sunday.Twenty-one crew members, all Chinese nationals, have now been accounted for aboard the Taishankou.The center said the crew hid in a safety compartment when the pirates boarded the ship. It did not mention any injuries among crew members.The center received a call for help from the Taishankou at 4:40 p.m. (Beijing Time) Saturday. Chinese warships assigned to escort duties in the Gulf of Aden rendezvoused with the Taishankou at 8:44 a.m. Sunday.Additionally, the CMSRC advised vessels to pay more attention to safety since the area reported a recent increase in pirate attacks.This followed another Chinese ship, the Lecong, being attacked by pirates in the northern Indian Ocean Thursday. One of the 26 crew members aboard the Lecong was injured during a battle with the pirates.The Lecong is now sailing toward Oman under the escort of a Chinese warship, according to a report in Sunday's People's Liberation Army Daily.The injured crew member was reported to have suffered a wound and infection, though his medical condition was reported as stable.

  

BEIJING, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- China's top judge, Wang Shengjun, on Monday urged the nation's courts to pay close attention to the impact on people's standards of living caused by recent price hikes.Also, the courts should properly handle disputes regarding employment, social security, education, medical treatment, housing and consumption sectors, in an effort to safeguard people's vital interests, said Wang, President of the Supreme People's Court of China, at a meeting attended by presidents from the countrywide high courts.Further, the Supreme People's Court urged local authorities to crack down on telecom and internet fraud, the fight against production and sales of poisonous food and fake medicine, and ensuring the safety of people's health and property, according to Wang.All courts should also properly handle disputes concerning farmers' rights and interests, including cases relating to the sale of agricultural products and pay to migrant workers, Wang said.Wang also urged the courts in various regions to take an active part in the country's efforts in protecting intellectual property rights and environmental protection, and hand down severe punishments for work-related crimes.As to people's letters and appeals to the higher authorities for help, Wang said the courts and police officers should speed up dealing with long-pending cases, and resolve problems and complaints from people.Statistics from the Supreme People's Court showed that in the first 11 months of this year, courts at various levels had received 9,754,141 cases and completed handling 8,967,396 cases, up 0.15 percent and 2.14 percent year-on-year.Wang also said the courts had played an effective role in serving economic and social progress.

  

GUANGZHOU, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has said that the State Council, China's Cabinet, is drafting measures to suppress sharp rises of commodity prices which concerns people's immediate interests.Wen made the remarks during his visit to Guangzhou city of south China's Guangdong Province from Nov. 11 to 12 before attending the opening ceremony of the Guangzhou Asian Games.Wen urged local governments to ensure supplies for daily food and other necessities to maintain market orders.In visiting a biochemical research institution under Chinese Academy of Sciences in Guangzhou, the premier encouraged scientists and researchers to make more achievements in stem cell study to benefit the people.Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao (C) visits Hansen Technology Co., LTD in Zhuhai during his visit to Guangzhou and Zhuhai, south China's Guangdong Province, on Nov. 15, 2010.
