DENVER, Colorado — The deadliest wildfire in California's history has left behind a path of unimaginable destruction, wiping out homes and killing at least 50 people. The Hamilton family had nine minutes to evacuate and barely escaped as flames raced toward their home. They lost everything in the fire just three weeks after moving all their belongings to Paradise, California.Steve Hamilton, his wife Delinda and their three kids moved from Colorado to California so he could take a job as a lead pastor. The family spent six years in Colorado where he worked for the Rocky Mountain Conference of Seventh-day Adventists."I know it was a really hard decision for him to leave but he felt like God was calling him out there," said Matt Moreland, a longtime friend and former coworker.Boxes were still packed when the fire destroyed the home where they had recently moved in. Pictures show the outline of a foundation and some of their belongings in the debris."They really just jumped in the car and drove away and Steve said when they were driving away their front yard was already on fire," said Moreland. He say the family didn't have insurance yet because they had just moved. Despite their loss, the family is focusing on helping others in their new community. "As soon as they went down the hill in Chico, Steve was calling people, asking for supplies to get things organized in order to start helping these people," said Moreland. Now friends are trying to help the family start over. They started a GoFundMe page to raise money for them as they continue their ministry work in California."They would never ask for help, they would just be the ones helping everyone else," said Lindsey Pratt, a friend who started the fundraising page. 1783

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The winning numbers for Wednesday night's Powerball 0 million jackpot are 56, 53, 45, 21, 03 with Powerball 22 Wednesday night's 0 million Powerball jackpot looks sort of puny given all the attention lavished on the .537 billion Mega Millions jackpot won in South Carolina on Tuesday.Only five lottery jackpots have been larger , but with two giant prizes in one week, it's hard not to compare. The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot is 1 in 292.2 million. Despite the tough odds, they're actually a little better than the odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot. No one has won the Powerball jackpot since Aug. 11, when a man from Staten Island, New York, won 5.6 million.Powerball's current estimated 0 million prize refers to the annuity option paid over 29 years. Most winners take the cash option, which would be 4.3 million. 917

DESCANSO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Sixth-graders frolicked in the snow in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park Thursday, thrilled to learn about science."We're trying to take what they're learning in school and making it come alive," Principal of Cuyamaca Outdoor School Greg Schuett said. The kids come for a full school week, but the classes are unlike any these students have attended before."Last time my group went on a hike we saw something with erosion! So like what happened is the rain because of one day of rain it split one part of land into two parts," a sixth-grader said excitedly.Schuett said the students go on nature hikes. Some students see wildlife like coyotes, deer and turkeys for the first time.RELATED: Complete coverage of California's winter storms"We are a science camp we are teaching kids how life functions on earth," Schuett said. Some students have already taken the lessons to heart, making them think of future career paths in the sciences.
