For students at Jackson Memorial Middle School in Ohio, Tuesday wasn't a normal day. When a seventh-grade student pulled out a gun and shot himself, students began to panic.  Airyonna Haggerty, who is a sixth grader at the school, described the moment teachers told her to get inside the classroom.The 12-year-old heard teachers screaming to get inside the classroom and the next thing she knew, she was hiding and crouching down with her fellow peers near the teacher's desk."I dropped everything. My phone, my chrome book, my book bag and me and my friends ran into the classroom and then we all hid. According to The Detroit Free Press, Billie Jean Brown of Motown recorded the address live with "top-end audio gear and professional engineers," not knowing the impact the speech would have on history. First lady Melania Trump was released from the hospital Saturday morning, her office confirmed."The first lady returned home to the White House this morning. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis says he’s concerned about the accuracy of COVID-19 test results.In a news conference Monday, he said there have been several cases where people received positive results, even though they had never been tested in the first place.“For that to come back positive, when there was no specimen submitted, is problematic. So I’ve heard it enough to be concerned about it," said DeSantis.People have said they submitted their contact information at a COVID-19 testing site, but after seeing how long the line was, they decided not to wait an hour or more to get the test. Nevertheless, a few days later, they got an email or a phone call telling them that they tested positive.Representatives at the Centurylink Sports Complex testing site say false positives aren’t possible there, because of how they have it set up.The Florida Department of Health says, at Centurylink, you submit your contact information right before you get tested. So if somebody were to get out of line, they wouldn’t have had the chance to hand over their phone number or email.But not all testing sites are the same.We reached out to Lee Health, which operates several testing sites of its own. Those sites operate by appointment only, and they do take contact info beforehand, but Lee Health says it has not yet had any issues with mixed up results, and it takes several steps to make sure the results get to the right person.The health system says its sites verify the patient’s identity when they arrive. Then, the person who conducts the test signs and dates each specimen. For millions of college students, this election will be their first time being able to vote for the President of the United States. While some students have been waiting for this opportunity for years, historically, many others may not even end up casting a ballot. Two groups who are responsible for mobilizing first-time voters on college campuses are the College Democrats and College Republicans. Both are national organizations with chapters on most university campuses. COVID-19 CHALLENGESIn a normal election year, Democrat and Republican clubs on campuses like Arizona State University would host almost daily events in the run-up to the election. Pizza parties, free food and guest speakers all serve the purpose of getting first-time voters registered and excited to participate in the election. But on many campuses this year, in-person events are banned, or at the very least, restricted. "This semester is obviously presenting a challenge," said Clay Robinson, vice president of the College Republicans at ASU.Robinson said one major impact has been the inability to set up tables near busy parts of campus to attract new members. As a result, membership has been slightly off. "Usually we’d be having in-person events, we’d be offering free food," Robinson said. The College Democrats have also seen an impact, potentially problematic for Democrats in Arizona since college students tend to vote more progressive. "I don't come on campus at all," said Cameron Adams, president of the ASU Young Democrats.Adams says in addition to missing in-person events, she misses knocking on doors for candidates. "We are known as the powerhouse of knocking on doors, so it's really different to not be doing that, Adams said. "I miss it so much."HOW THEY'VE BEEN MOBILIZING Both Robinson and Adams say they've been holding virtual meet-ups on Zoom, and the response has actually been better than expected. "I've actually been surprised how many people we’ve been able to keep coming to meetings," Robinson said. Adams says speakers have also been willing to participate remotely, which gives the group reasons to come together. "We’ve been having debate watch parties," Adams added.
