SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Caltrans maintenance crews closed the westbound Interstate 8 connector to northbound state Route 67 at 9 p.m. Thursday night, but lanes were reopened at 5 a.m. Friday morning. The closure took effect for guardrail repair, according to Caltrans.Signs were posted to direct motorists on westbound I-8 to exit at West Main Street and turn left to eastbound I-8 to SR-67.Motorists were reminded to be work zone alert and slow down when approaching Caltrans vehicles with amber flashing lights.Caltrans says Californians can expect more roadway improvement projects like this made possible by the recently passed Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, Senate Bill 1.  715

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Authorities Tuesday identified the man killed during a Jet Ski crash over the weekend.According to the San Diego County medical examiner, 21-year-old Darius Kennedy died after a boat struck his Jet Ski.The medical examiner says he disappeared under water but emerged. People in the water helped Kennedy, who was taken to the hospital with injuries to his head and torso. He later died.The crash happened near the north end of Ski Beach around 6:30 Saturday.The driver of the boat that crashed into the Jet Ski was questioned and the boat taken in for evidence. The name of the boat driver hasn’t been released. 638

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Days after Governor Gavin Newsom signed a new law aimed at child sex abuse, three San Diego women came forward to announce a lawsuit against the Diocese of San Diego. The three women say they were abused by Monsignor Gregory Sheridan as children. Sheridan worked in this diocese for 35 years and is on the diocese’s list of credibly accused abusive priests. This new measure gives survivors of childhood sexual assault, regardless of their age, a three-year “window” to bring a civil lawsuit against any perpetrator and employer or third party that was aware of misconduct that created a risk of childhood sexual assault. The new law also extends the statute of limitations for survivors of childhood sexual assault, giving survivors more time to file civil lawsuits: up to their 40th birthday (previously their 26th birthday) or within five years (previously three years) from the date of discovery of an adult psychological injury caused by the childhood sexual assault. One of the victims told 10News, "It doesn’t mean you don’t love God, doesn’t mean you don’t support your church, it means this priest was a bad apple."10News reached out to the Diocese of San Diego and they sent a statement that reads in part, "There is no crime or sin worse than a priest abusing the young people he is sworn to serve and protect. The report found that across the country, 15% of all moves between January and June 2020 were forced by the pandemic. However, moving interest in September 2020 is notably higher than the previous year (32% increase) — indicating a shifting peak moving season, which typically occurs in late spring and early summer."Rental Market Rob Warnock is a research associate for the online rental platform Apartment List."You have people who are leaving the rental market to enter the home ownership market, for example, you have people who are just moving within cities because a lot of cities like San Francisco have a lot of variation in the housing market just across different neighborhoods or nearby suburbs," Warnok said.He explained there are different migration flows, and people's current situation is driving moves some hadn't considered.According to an Apartment List national rent report, rent prices in some areas across the country are down.Their report noted, "Of the 100 largest cities for which we have data, 41 have seen rents fall since the start of the pandemic in March. To put that in perspective, during the same months last year just four cities saw a drop in rent prices, and among them the average decline was only 0.8 percent. And even in the cities where rent growth has been positive through the pandemic, it has still been sluggish. Seventy of the 100 largest cities are currently registering slower year-over-year rent growth than at this time last year.”It also showed falling rent prices in expensive coastal cities. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Authorities are asking for the public’s help in identifying and finding a man suspected of intentionally setting a fire in San Diego’s Little Italy area.On July 18, at around 3:45 a.m., a man allegedly lit a recycling dumpster on fire that was against a wall of the Mona Lisa Italian Foods on 2061 India Street.Authorities said the fire spread to the building and a delivery van parked near the dumpster.The blaze caused ,000 in damage.The man suspected in the arson case is white or Hispanic in his mid 20s to early 30s. He appears to be balding, unshaven and has a stocky build.Authorities said the man was shirtless at the time of the incident, but he was wearing skinny jeans and dark-colored loafer-style shoes.The man also has a large vertical tattoo along the right side of his rib cage.Anyone with information on the suspected arsonist or the incident is asked to contact the Metro Arson Strike Team (MAST) at 619-236-6815 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to ,000 to anyone with information that leads to an arrest in the case. 1110
