As lawmakers begin bipartisan talks for another round of COVID-19 stimulus funding, divisions between the White House and Congress are threatening its passage.Republican congressional leaders met with Trump on Monday at the White House as cases spike across the country and key provisions of the last stimulus package, like increased unemployment benefits, are set to expire in the coming days.Trump says “good things” are happening, but the administration is stiffening its opposition to more testing money and interjecting other priorities that could complicate passage.According to The Washington Post, a bill coming together between GOP lawmakers will embrace Trump's priorities like payroll tax cuts, measures incentivizing schools to reopen in the fall with additional funding and little aid to state and local governments. Some of those points have already raised concerns with several Republican lawmakers, while the bill will undoubtedly face pushback from Democrats.According to The Associated Press, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is prepared to roll out the Republican plan in a matter of days, which should total about trillion in funding. The Democrats introduced a trillion HEROES Act stimulus package in May, which has already passed the House. McConnell and the Republican-controlled Senate have not considered that bill for passage. 1372

AMHERST, N.Y. — 8-year-old Caleb Kabala of Amherst said he has a passion for helping other people.“I just like helping other kids and it makes me feel good,” he said. And while Caleb is just a kid himself, he’s proving you are never too young to give back.“I just wanted to help children cause that’s what I usually do.”For the last two weeks, Caleb and his grandma have been selling framed pictures of Santa at pop-up events throughout Western New York. And the Santa seen in each picture frame is the colorful creation of Caleb himself.“The outpouring that he has gotten it's just been... it hasn't stopped," Caleb's grandma said. Money from every picture sold goes straight to charity.“This week we’re gonna donate to the little heroes," Caleb said. "And every other week we’re gonna pick a different charity to donate to.”Caleb plans on selling these picture frames year-round and with different themes. And his reasoning for it was simple.“So I can help out more and more kids,” he said.Right now, Caleb’s picture frames can be purchased on his website for . An Ohio company that makes bulletproof backpack shields is experiencing an increase in demand for its product due to concerns over school shootings."We've had, I would say, a 100 to 200 percent increase certainly in response," said Matt White, the director of marketing for ShotStop Ballistics, based in Stow. The backpack inserts are one-quarter inch thick and weigh about a pound. It's made from the company's Duritium technology, which can block bullets from handguns and some rifles. However, it does not protect against high-caliber weapons, like AR-15s.The shields come in hard or soft designs and cost 0.White said more parents have been inquiring and ordering the insert following the Feb. 14 school shooting in Parkland, Florida. Demand also increased after a 13-year-old boy died after shooting himself inside a middle school restroom in nearby Jackson Township."The fact that you're even here and we're talking about it, it's terrible," White said. "It's not something that we ever envisioned. It's not something that we had planned for, but the potential with what's out there now, it's one more layer of safety."White said the bulletproof product was originally meant as a clipboard for police officers to provide added protection during traffic stops. Some believe sending kids off to school with the shield only creates more fear and anxiety."It's not right. I mean, come on," said Dave Spearing who has grandchildren in the nearby Cuyahoga Falls School District. "Schools are safe."But Kendall Kubus, a recent Akron Archbishop Hoban High School graduate, sees it differently."I think it's protecting us against if that is a scenario, we have that protection and parents have that in their mind that, "Okay, my child is there. They're going to be safer."' 1819
