SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 45-year-old man got into an argument with two males at the entrance to an alley in San Diego's Valencia Park neighborhood and was shot in the back Friday evening.The shooting was reported just before 8 p.m. at the entrance to an alley at 53rd Street and Imperial Avenue, San Diego Police Department Officer Robert Heims said.The man was standing with his girlfriend when the two males walked up, argued and one male fired several shots at the victim, hitting him once in the back, Heims said. SAN DIEGO — A San Diego-based stem cell research institute believes its discovery may have saved the life of a COVID patient on death's doorstep.GIOSTAR infused a 53-year-old man in a coma with Mesenchymal stem-cells taken from an umbilical cord. Prior to that, all other treatments were failing. "He was having a stroke, he was under dialysis, liver function was declining," said Dr. Anand Srivastava, co-founder of GIOSTAR. "Nothing was working."The patient, whose identity is not being released due to privacy laws, had been in a coma in a New Jersey hospital. GIOSTAR got special clearance from the Food and Drug Administration to try the stem-cell treatment. Srivastava said the patient began to recover, gradually over three weeks. It was the only way to survive - because Koll exhausted all of his Paycheck Protection Program funds that got him through the first shutdown."Closed again is something physically, financially and mentally something I can't do, and I won't do, so I will be like a chameleon and adapt to anything that this governor throws my way," Koll said. The gym moved the equipment on the sidewalk and also has an interior outdoor space to utilize. By Wednesday just after 12 p.m., a half-dozen people were working out on the sidewalk, including Felicia Brown, a regular who drives all the way from Spring Valley. "I think it's just businesses being creative and saying - 'You know what? We can't afford another shutdown for two, three, four months,'" she said. The county says impacted businesses are able to operate outside or under well-ventilated tents. That rule, however, doesn't apply to salons due to state regulation, which says they can only cut hair inside.
