BEIJING, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Vice Premier Li Keqiang has told the health care authorities Sunday to train more general practitioners for the expansion of basic health care coverage and improvement of grassroots medical services, a press release said Sunday.Li, who is in charge of the national reform of health care system, made the remarks at a State Council, or Cabinet, meeting on expanding the reform on Friday in Beijing.The meeting came one year after China launched its massive health care reform, which seeks to provide adequate and affordable health care services to all. SHANGHAI, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Li Yuanchao, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met Friday with Singapore's Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew in Shanghai.Li, also president of the CPC's Pudong Cadre College, hailed the development of Sino-Singapore ties since the two states established diplomatic relations in 1990.He pledged to further party-to-party exchanges and cooperation with Singapore in personnel training, urban development and environmental protection.Lee said he hoped the two states would expand cooperation. He delivered a speech at the college.Li is also Minister of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee.

BEIJING, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Lending by Chinese banks may drop to 600 billion yuan (88 billion U.S. dollars) in May as the central government winds down its stimulus program and cools the property market to prevent the economy from overheating, the Shanghai Securities News reported Friday.A fall in bank lending in May is expected after the government introduced a raft of measures to curb the skyrocketing property market in April. The measures included a ban on lending for third home purchases and increased scrutiny of developers' financing, the report said.Lu Zhengwei, an economist at Industrial Bank, estimates Chinese banks' May lending will be 450 billion yuan to 650 billion yuan, compared with 774 billion yuan in April."China has asked banks to strictly control lending to industries with overcapacity and to stop lending to new projects not in the 4-trillion-yuan stimulus package. These will be major reasons for a drop off in May lending," he said.China's banks lent 3.37 trillion yuan in the first four months of the year, about 45 percent of the government's full-year 7.5-trillion-yuan lending target.The National Bureau of Statistics is due to release major economic data for May, including new bank lending, mid-June.

HAIKOU, April 25 (Xinhua) -- China's fishery administration said on Sunday it had started regular patrols of the South China Sea, sending two vessels to take over from two others currently escorting Chinese fishing boats in the area."China Yuzheng 301 and 302 take over from China Yuzheng 311 and 202, which have been patrolling the sea area of Nansha Islands since April 1," said Wu Zhuang, director of Administration of Fishery and Fishing Harbor Supervision for South China Sea under the Ministry of Agriculture.He said the patrol ships were sent to escort Chinese fishing boats in the South China Sea and reinforce China's fishing rights of the waters around Nansha Islands.The two ships set sail from Sanya, a coastal city in China's Southernmost Island Province of Hainan, on Sunday.China's patrol vessels escort the country's fishing boats and help treat fishermen who fall ill, Wu said. WASHINGTON, April 25 (Xinhua) -- World Bank member countries reached an agreement on Sunday to shift more power to emerging and developing nations, under which China's votes increased to 4.42 percent from 2.77 percent, making it the third largest voting power holder in the Washington-based international institution.In total, the World Bank approved a 3.13-percentage-point increase in the voting power of the Developing and Transition Countries (DTCs), making it 47.19 percent now and representing a total increase of 4.59 percentage points for the DTCs since 2008."This increase fulfills the Development Committee commitment in Istanbul in October 2009 to generate a significant increase of at least 3 percentage points in DTC voting power," said the World Bank in a statement.Chinese Finance Minister Xie Xuren (C, Front) and other participants pose for a group photo prior to the IMF-World Bank Development Committee meeting in Washington April 25, 2010.After a first phase of reforms agreed in 2008, developing countries have an around-44-percent share in the World Bank.At the Pittsburgh G20 summit in September 2009 and the Istanbul Development Committee meeting in October 2009, the bank's shareholders agreed to raise the voting rights to at least 47 percent for developing and transition countries."We were just pleased that we are getting close to reflecting China's increasing share in world economy, and that is reflected in edited voting share," World Bank President Robert Zoellick told Xinhua after the Development Committee meeting."Today was a good day for multilateralism," said Zoellick.
