VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The Vista Unified School District confirmed that a student at one of its high schools tested positive for COVID-19.According to the district, a positive case in a student was reported at Mission Vista High School on Tuesday, resulting in about 130 students in the four classes the positive student attended to be placed into a 14-day quarantine. Those students will pivot to virtual learning.Staff members involved in these classes or who may have come into contact with the student were also quarantined, the district said."The student did not come into close contact with every student; however, since this is our first incident, we are proceeding with an abundance of caution," a district release stated.District officials said schools will reopen at normal capacity on Friday.The positive test comes just two days after Vista Unified reopened its schools for in-person instruction.Part of the reopening plan, known as “Vista Classic,” includes attempts to have social distancing as much as possible. The district will allow as many as 38 students in a single classroom, so desks will not be spaced six feet apart.According to the district dashboard, prior to the full reopening, there were four confirmed positive COVID-19 cases at schools between Sept. 8-Oct. 19. 1300

VISTA (CNS) - An Oceanside man who allegedly fatally struck a pedestrian in a crosswalk while fleeing from another crash was charged Friday with murder, among other charges.Wesley Stuart, 27, was also charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, hit-and-run and drunken driving, and faces 15 years to life in state prison if convicted of all charges stemming from the Tuesday night death of 65-year-old Tran Thanhminh of Oceanside.Police said the initial crash was reported shortly after 10:15 p.m. Tuesday at Douglas Drive and Mission Avenue.RELATED: 65-year-old man killed, driver arrested in Oceanside hit-and-runInvestigators believe Stuart was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado pickup and was speeding eastbound on Mission, ran a red light and collided with a Ford F-150 pickup that was northbound on Douglas, Oceanside police Sgt. Rick Davis said.After the crash, the Chevy driver backed up and headed east on Mission, where he struck Thanhminh in a crosswalk, dragging him about 150 feet down the street, the sergeant said.Thanhminh, who died at the scene, was with his wife at the time, though she was not struck, authorities said.The couple had just closed their restaurant for the day and were walking home when he was hit, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office, which stated that his wife had already crossed the street when she heard the crash, but did not see her husband when she turned to look into the street.Stuart allegedly continued on Mission before getting out of the pickup at Rancho Del Oro and fleeing on foot with a passenger, Davis said.Officers searched the area with the help of a police helicopter and apprehended the two outside Stuart's home, Oceanside police spokesman Tom Bussey said.Stuart was arrested. Earners over that amount will not receive any money. Head of households will be able to earn up to 2,000 a year and still be eligible for a check. WASHINGTON — Congress is defying President Donald Trump on removing Confederate symbolism from the military.The Senate on Thursday joined the House in approving legislation that would rename bases like Fort Bragg and Fort Benning that are named for Confederate officers.The Senate vote was an overwhelming 86-14 vote. Earlier this week, the House passed the measure with a 295-125 vote.The Senate passage opens the door for the Senate and House Armed Services Committees to open negotiations for a final version of the bill. Once that bill is passed, it would head to Trump's desk.Even if Trump were to veto the bill, Thursday's vote indicates that Congress could override it and make the bill a law.Trump has said he favors that military bases keep the names of Confederate military leaders, despite efforts from Pentagon officials to change the name.
