SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Some parents in Poway are teaming up to help their kids when the school year begins with virtual learning in a few weeks.In the spring, when Ellie, 6, and her brother Ethan, 7, were learning Spanish while distance learning, their father, a college professor, and mother, a lawyer, were working from home."I had my daughter to my left. I had my computer in the middle, and my son at my right. Somebody needs to be there to review your work. With the distance learning, I believe they will have some one-on-one time but the majority of the time, they're still going to be working on their own," said Testa.Testa hopes the parental 'co-op' approach will give the parents a break and their kids a chance to socialize."We haven't figured out everything yet, but the will kids be bringing on their own lunches. No sharing of food. They'll be washing their hands a lot," said Testa.Testa says it may not be realistic to keep kids at that age from interacting from each other. She'll be relying on the other parents to be honest about any signs of illness."We trust each other to follow the health protocols," said Testa.Their school year is set to begin August 2. 2746

By day, she’s an assistant teacher at a preschool in Pacific Beach.She’d like to become a lead teacher one day, but her education has left her with more than ,000 in student debt.Her financial goal is to pay that debt off as fast as possible. Alean is one of several San Diegans 10News will follow for the next year to monitor their successes and struggles while attempting to accomplish a financial goal.“When I think about me not having debt, I think about the possibility of me studying more, learning more about child development, learning more about how to work in a preschool, about better ways to teach children,” she said.Alean knew she needed a lesson in financial management and budgeting, so she turned to free lessons on YouTube.Now she closely tracks her expenses and spending, she’s on a “rice and beans” food budget, and she picked up a second job as a tutor.“I’m willing to make the sacrifice. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Saturday, San Diego's crown jewel, Balboa Park, turns 150 years old.San Diego will celebrate the founding of the iconic park on May 26 during the second annual Fiesta Botanica. The historic day will be marked with a parade, kids activities, park tours, butterfly and ladybug releases, and much more.Live performances are also planned at the park's Botanical Garden and Spreckels Organ Pavilion.In 1868, the City of San Diego moved to set aside 1,400 acres of land for the area then known as "City Park." For more than 20 years, the land sat undeveloped but with its spectacular view of downtown San Diego.RELATED: 'Dr. Beach' names Coronado Beach among best in the U.S.Soon, the park would see the first steps that have led to its scenic beauty. In 1892, Kate Sessions, the "Mother of Balboa Park," offered to plant 100 trees a year within the park in exchange for 32 acres of the land to be used for a commercial nursery.As the park came into its own, water systems, roads, and more plants were added.In the decades since it was established, Balboa Park has seen the San Diego Natural History Museum, Museum of Man, Spreckels Organ Pavilion, and many other attractions added, transforming the parcel of land into an art and culture destination. 1292
