(CNS) - A fire that broke out at a Fallbrook home Friday morning spread to surrounding vegetation, but firefighters halted the blaze at a quarter-acre.The blaze was reported just before 4:45 a.m. at an estimated 3,000-square-foot house in the 40300 block of Sandia Creek Drive, San Diego County Sheriff's Lt. Pat McEvoy said.North County Fire Protection District crews responded and found the structure fully engulfed, Cal Fire Capt. Thomas Shoots said. Cal Fire crews were called in once the flames spread to the vegetation surrounding the home.By 5:40 a.m., firefighters had halted the spread of the fire at a quarter-acre, Shoots said. Crews were expected to remain on scene for at least two hours to mop up any hot spots.Deputies and neighbors helped evacuate about 50 horses from the property, McEvoy said. According to California Highway Patrol, the crash happened on Mesa Rock Road near Mesa Ranch Drive around 12:30 a.m. CHP says the 17-year-old female was standing outside a vehicle parked on the right shoulder having a conversation with four friends. Three of the individuals, including the teen, crossed the road from east to west. As they crossed, CHP says either a white Toyota SUV or a pickup truck speeding northbound struck the teen."The California Highway Patrol Oceanside Area is asking the public for assistance in locating a 2008 to 2012 model year range second generation, Toyota Highlander, pearl white in color. Drivers entering the Kent Ranch HOA in Escondido are now greeted by high-tech license plate readers. According to the creators of the tech, the cameras help police solve an average of two to three cases a day nationwide. The cameras don’t have facial recognition, only the ability to identify the car. Critics of the technology worry the data could be abused and is an invasion of privacy. The HOA did hear from some residents about privacy concerns, but believed public safety outweighed the concerns. Residents can request their vehicle not be captured by the cameras. 739
