Investors were in a rotten mood Tuesday.Seemingly good results from Dow components Caterpillar, Coca-Cola and United Technologies didn't please Wall Street. The Dow closed down 425 points, or 1.7%, after opening with a 130-point gain. At its worst point of the day, the Dow was down more than 600 points.The Dow has fallen for the past five straight days — its longest losing streak in more than a year — and has given up its gains for the year.Why the nearly 650-point swing in the Dow in a matter of hours? Once investors took a closer look at the results, they focused on the negatives.Caterpillar, for example, warned that profit margins would probably not get any higher this year than they are now.And Coke investors were disappointed that lower prices may have helped drive sales -- even though Diet Coke finally returned to growth. Shares of Caterpillar plunged 6% while Coke's stock lost 2%.Verizon was one of the few companies that posted strong results Tuesday that didn't seem to have any caveats -- and it was rewarded for it. Shares of Verizon rose 2%.But other earnings reports were downright gloomy. 3M, another Dow component, lowered its outlook for the year. That sent its stock plunging 7%. Insurance company Travelers, also in the Dow, fell 3% after its earnings missed forecasts.All this negativity dragged down other old-school, classic industrial Dow companies too. Boeing and DowDuPont both fell about 3%.And tech investors were disappointed by increased expenses at Google parent Alphabet.Related: Why everyone is stressing about the 10-year Treasury Even though Alphabet posted solid gains in earnings and revenue that easily topped Wall Street's estimates, the stock fell 5% — and that helped drag down the S&P 500, Nasdaq and tech titans Apple, Amazon, Microsoft and Facebook.It didn't help that the yield on the 10-year US Treasury note rose above 3% for the first time in more than four years Tuesday morning.If this benchmark bond rate keeps climbing, it may make it more expensive to borrow money for mortgages and auto loans and could eat into profits at big US companies — especially since the Federal Reserve is expected to keep raising short-term rates.Still, one expert said investors may be overreacting to the moves in the bond market."I don't know that there is any magic to the 3.0% level other than it is a nice round number," said Jeff Mills, co-chief investment strategist for PNC Financial Services Group. "There is no rule that says rising rates are bad for the stock market."Mills added that since 1928, stocks have actually done a little bit better when rates have gone up. The market has gained about 11% on average during years that rates have gone up and 9% in years of falling rates.But jittery investors don't seem to care about historical market facts right now. In the 2020 general election, President-elect Joe Biden beat out a number of formidable candidates to earn the highest office in the land, including President Donald Trump, Libertarian nominee Jo Jorgensen and Santa Claus.Yes, even ol' Kris Kringle received at least one vote for president in 2020, according to the Vermont Secretary of State's website.Every state has its own rules for conducting write-in candidates. In fact, according to Ballotpedia, most states will only accept votes for certain pre-approved write-in candidates.Ballotpedia reports that only eight states — Alabama, Delaware, Iowa, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Vermont, and Wyoming — will count the write-in votes for any write-in candidate. And of those states, it appears only Vermont publishes the name of every write-in candidate on its election results webpage.Write-in candidates received 1,942 votes for president in Vermont in the 2020 presidential election. That's compared to the 242,820 that Biden received in carrying the state. It's also more than the 1,269 that independent candidate Kanye West received, despite being listed on the ballot.Among write-in candidates, Sen. Bernie Sanders received the most with 619. That's not exactly a surprise — the left-wing, progressive senator calls the state home and is currently in the midst of his third term as one of the state's senators.Other top vote-getters included moderate Republicans like Sen. Mitt Romney (57 votes) and former Ohio Gov. John Kasich (30 votes). Candidates who sought the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, like Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (78 votes), Andrew Yang (42 votes) and Pete Buttigieg (24 votes) were also among the top vote-getters among write-ins.Notably, 37 Vermonters thought Vice President Mike Pence should get a promotion to the Oval Office.Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's top infectious disease expert, also received a handful of votes. When totaling up various iterations of his name (Dr. Anthony Fauci, Dr. Fauci, Tony Fauci, etc.), he received 13 write-in votes.Then, there were the celebrities. TV hosts Oprah Winfrey (6 votes) and Mike Rowe (5 votes) racked up multiple write-ins. Jennifer Lopez received a vote, as did LeBron James and Dwayne Johnson. There was even a write-in for a ticket of Tyra Banks and "John Teffer" — though that voter may have misspelled the name of Jon Taffer, the host of reality TV series "Bar Rescue."Write-in votes also dipped into the fantastical and absurd. The list of rejects, which WRTV acquired through an information request with the BMV, range from wildly profane to sexually explicit to politically motivated to complete gibberish.One person decided to be a "SMRTA55," while others wondered "WTF 2020" and cursed "COV1D19." A few submissions came from spirited Purdue fans who wanted to tell other drivers it's time to "BTFU" (Boiler The F**k Up).Many of the puns referred to, well, let's just say bodily functions and anatomy. And at least half simply were not suitable to be printed on a family-friendly news website, such as the one you're reading now, so you will have to use your imagination. We're "SRRY."According to the BMV, personalized license plates can only contain a combination of numbers and letters. Special characters are not allowed. It was a scary situation. A motorist flagged down deputy Jeremie Nix on Wednesday, saying their 3-month-old child was not breathing. If not for Nix being at the right place at the right time, the baby named Kingston might not have survived. According to the Marion County, Florida Sheriff's Office, Nix performed "life-saving measures" on the child, such as chest compressions. After Kingston remained unresponsive, Nix took the child to a nearby hospital. Within minutes, doctors were able to treat Kingston. Doctors told the sheriff's department that Nix's swift actions saved the child's life. By Thursday, Kingston was out of the hospital and back home with his mother.  717
