BEIJING, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin has called on overseas-educated Chinese talents to contribute to the country's development by returning home and starting businesses.Jia, also a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks in his letter to Wednesday's award ceremony here for the first "Teng fei" awards.The China Western-returned Scholar Entrepreneur "Teng Fei" Award was designed to honor and reward those returned overseas-educated Chinese who had grown into enterprises leaders.The award was given to 50 excellent enterprises, 10 enterprises with vast potential, and 10 outstanding entrepreneurs.Han Qide, president of the award's co-organizer, the Western Returned Scholars Association, explained that the underlying purpose of the award was to provide a platform to promote understanding and exchange of experiences among those returnees, and to encourage, support and help more of them to launch their own careers.

BEIJING, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- China on Friday responded to Japan's new defense guidelines, saying China had no intention of threatening anybody.Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jiang Yu made the remarks when responding to a question on the subject."A certain country has no right to act as a representative of the international community and make irresponsible remarks on China's development," she said.Japan adopted the National Defence Programme Guidelines Friday. Media reports said the guidelines claimed China's military development and lack of transparency were matters of concern to the region and international community, and urged nations to encourage China to act responsibly.China unswervingly follows the path of peaceful development, and its defense policy is defensive in nature, Jiang said, adding that China poses no threat to anybody."The fact is that China's development since its reform and opening up, has brought huge opportunities of common prosperity to the world, including Japan," Jiang said.

BEIJING, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- China reiterated its commitment to support Sudan's peace process, stressing that peace, stability and development of the country were of pivotal importance."The involved parties should resolve disputes through dialogue and consultation and work together to promote a smooth referendum in southern Sudan," Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi was quoted as saying in a press release issued by the Chinese Foreign Ministry here Wednesday.Yang's remarks came during the talks with his visiting Sudanese counterpart Ahmed Ali Karti. The two countries have conducted effective consultation and coordination in dealing with regional conflicts, fighting against terrorism, maintaining the international nonproliferation mechanisms and coping with major international issues," Cui said.He said the two countries made important contributions to help the Asia-Pacific region and the world work their way out from the financial crisis.
