The Trump administration announced on Wednesday new guidelines regarding how children residing overseas with U.S. troops and government employees are given citizenship. The new guidelines state that a child must meet certain residency requirements before being granted U.S. citizenship. The new guidelines does not change the law on birthright citizenship if the parents were both U.S. citizens and residents before the child's birth. Instead, the guidelines effect children whose parent or parents are U.S. citizens, but not necessarily U.S. residents. According to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, the policy affects:Non-U.S. citizen parents and adopted by a U.S. citizen U.S. government employee or U.S. service member after their birth;Non-U.S. citizen parents, such as a lawful permanent resident U.S. government employee or U.S. service member who naturalized only after the child’s birth; orTwo U.S. citizen government employee or U.S. service member parents who do not meet the residence or physical presence requirements to transmit citizenship to their child at birth (or one non-U.S. citizen parent and one U.S. citizen parent who does not meet these requirements). The guidelines state, "Children residing abroad with their U.S. citizen parents who are U.S. government employees or members of the U.S. armed forces stationed abroad are not considered to be residing in the United States for acquisition of citizenship. Similarly, leave taken in the United States while stationed abroad is not considered residing in the United States even if the person is staying in property he or she owns."The policy states that a U.S. citizen parent must apply for citizenship on the child's behalf. The guidelines also state that the child and their parents must complete the process to become a citizen by the child's 18th birthday.U.S. law has the following requirements for children to be given citizenship automatically:(1) At least one parent of the child is a citizen of the United States, whether by birth or naturalization.(2) The child is under the age of eighteen years.(3) The child is residing in the United States in the legal and physical custody of the citizen parent pursuant to a lawful admission for permanent residence. To read the complete guidelines, click 2300
The US Navy acknowledged Friday that a request had been made regarding the USS John S. McCain in relation to President Donald Trump's visit to Japan, but said the ship ended up remaining in its normal configuration. The statement continues a saga stemming from emails exchanged between the White House and lower-level US Navy officials about keeping a warship named for the late Sen. John McCain's father and grandfather out of sight ahead of the President's trip."A request was made to the U.S. Navy to minimize the visibility of USS John S. McCain, however, all ships remained in their normal configuration during the President's visit," Rear Adm. Charlie Brown, chief of Navy information, said in a statement. "There were also no intentional efforts to explicitly exclude Sailors assigned to USS John S. McCain."Brown added that the Navy is "fully cooperating with the review of this matter tasked by" acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan. Two Navy officials told CNN on Wednesday that the White House Military Office had asked lower-level US Navy officials about keeping the ship out of view -- an impractical request as the ship was under repair, one of the officials said."Once leadership heard about it, they said knock it off," a senior Navy official told CNN.The ship ultimately was not moved nor was the name obscured, said Cmdr. Clay Doss, a spokesman for the 7th Fleet.Trump told reporters Thursday that while he had had no knowledge of the plan nor would he have acted on it, he "is not a big fan" of McCain, and whoever was behind the plan was "well-meaning."When asked abut the controversy Friday, Shanahan maintained that the military would not be politicized, adding that he would not have directed the ship to be moved."Our business is to run military operations and not to become politicized," Shanahan told reporters at a Singapore news conference. "I'll wait until I get a full explanation of the facts before I pass judgment on the situation, but our job is to run the military." 2016

Thick, black graffiti sprayed onto a Russian polar bear's coat poses an extra threat to an animal already in danger, experts say.Video shared on social media shows a lumbering polar bear whose back had been branded with "T-34," the name of an old Soviet Union tank. The video was posted to Facebook on December 1 by Sergey Kavry, a World Wildlife Fund employee who lives in the remote Russian region. In the comments, Kavry said he obtained the video via WhatsApp from indigenous minorities in Chukotka, in Russia's far east, though it is not clear from the video where it was filmed.Polar bears are having to 620
There really have been a couple of creepy stories in recent days about hackers breaking into people’s Ring security cameras.“There is actually a channel that someone has put together, like a YouTube channel, of hacked-into security cameras,” says Bob O’Donnell, the president of TECHnalysis Research. “And they’re trying to do it for fun and they’re harassing the people. I mean, it’s really sick.”O’Donnell says it’s not likely this has anything to do with security camera system, but rather how the owner sets them up. “People who are just using the basic default settings or doing no password because the convenience of wanting to get in there to change their settings, are leaving themselves open for people to come in from the outside,” the tech expert says.Hackers often reuse stolen or leaked credentials. They could get the info from past data breaches that expose usernames and passwords that people use on multiple devices.O’Donnell says people should change their security camera passwords regularly and set up two-factor authentication.“Basically, it means the equivalent of like a fingerprint scan and a password or a hardware key and a password, or a facial scan and a fingerprint,” O’Donnell says. “Bottom line is it’s two different things you need to get into to access your account.”O’Donnell says the bottom line is security cameras do bring peace of mind and convenience when they’re managed properly. 1433
