SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police officers saved a parrot from a hot car in Sorrento Valley, as temperatures reached upwards of 120 degrees inside the vehicle.San Diego Police say someone noticed a Macaw parrot in a car in distress at a hotel parking lot in the 11000 block of Vista Sorrento Parkway. A San Diego Humane Society officer responded and tried to break the window, before calling SDPD for assistance.Police broke the window and removed the parrot and rushed it to a veterinarian.A police officer told ABC 10News that the temperature in the car was at least 120 degrees. The bird only had a cup of liquid in a Big Gulp cup and no food.It's a misdemeanor to leave an animal unattended in a hot vehicle.San Diego Humane Society said the parrot is doing okay and the owners have been reached to reclaim the bird."Cars get hot very fast, so we advise never to leave an animal unattended in car, especially when it is warm outside. Even with the windows open, a parked car can quickly become a furnace. If the temperature outside is 80 degrees, the temperature inside your car can quickly climb to 120 degrees. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- One man is behind bars after a series of events in Rancho Penasquitos, including nearly running over a firefighter. Around 2:30 p.m. California Highway Patrol received a report of a reckless vehicle on SR-76 near Cole Grade Road Monday. The blue Toyota RAV4 was reported after unsafely passing vehicles and speeding in the area. Shortly after, CHP reported that the driver - Falahi Abrahim - was involved in a crash and started a brush fire.Shortly after Cal Fire responded to the fire, 37-year-old Abrahim from fled the scene - nearly hitting the firefighter who was trying to help him.Police officers followed, but Abrahim refused to stop and a pursuit began. The pursuit continued westbound on SR-76 to I-15 and transitioned to I-15 Southbound. The vehicle continued to flee from officers on I-15 Southbound and exited the freeway at Camino Del Norte where the vehicle progressed eastbound.During the chase Abrahim failed to stop for two red lights at separate intersections and officers discontinued the pursuit in the interest of public safety.A San Diego Police Department helicopter continued to follow the car, communicating Abrahim's location to the CHP. At 3:11 p.m. the driver stopped near the 10000 block of Carmel Mountain Road. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police are searching for a reported bank robbery suspect in the Mission Valley area late Friday.A bank robbery was reported at the US Bank location at Frazee Road just before 5 p.m., according to San Diego Police. At one point, SWAT officers were called in to assist.SDPD initially reported that shots were fired inside the bank based on accounts from "scared employees" but later confirmed no shots had been fired. Police are currently searching for a suspect. No injuries have been immediately reported. The building was reportedly locked down as police searched.The suspected was described as a Hispanic male in his 20s, wearing a black mask or bandana, black hooded shirt, black pants, tan backpack armed with a handgun. 751

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - On the edge of Balboa Park, parkgoers arrived Wednesday to a fresh layer of graffiti across a popular playground area.Joanne Schara leads a boot camp class at Bird Park at Upas three times a week. After a year of working out there, the things that drew her are now awash in graffiti. "It's just sad to see. You come here because you want a happy space. People bring their kids. People bring their pets. Its beautiful," said Schara.The tagging is everywhere, from the tables and benches and the wall wrapping around the playground area to utility boxes and graffiti on the ground."Doesn't give a good image at all," said Schara.Cathy Lea has lived in the neighborhood for 40 years and takes her dogs to the park twice a day."When I see the graffiti, it's disheartening," said Schara.Lea says every few days, there is more graffiti. On the concrete wall that surrounds the park, there are countless layers of tagging that have been painted over, only to be tagged again."That's not what this park is about," said Lea.On the Nextdoor app, some longtime neighbors posted the current graffiti is the "worst they've ever seen." Lately the graffiti has started to creep into areas previously untouched, including the playground set and the nearby rocks. As the tagging spreads, so does the frustration."It's not the kind of message we want to be sending in North Park," said Lea.Several neighbors have posted on the city's Get It Done app to get it cleaned up.
