BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Two white men have been charged in connection with an alleged racial attack on a Black man at an Indiana lake on the Fourth of July.The alleged victim, Vauhxx Booker, said the news of charges against Sean Purdy and Jerry Cox "isn't a happy moment.""It's a necessary moment," said Booker, a civil rights activist and member of the Monroe County Human Rights Commission.Booker and his attorney, Katharine Liell, held a press conference after the Monroe County Prosecutor's Office announced charges Friday. It was held virtually, as Booker has recently tested positive for COVID-19.Booker said five white men pinned him against a tree at Lake Monroe, shouted racial slurs and one of them threatened to “get a noose” during the incident over Independence Day weekend.Booker said he's often asked what should happen to Purdy and Cox, and he says it's not for him to say."That's not my place to decide," he said. "We have a legal system and what I want now is for our neighbors to do their part and decide the fate of these individuals."According to a report released Thursday by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, state investigators identified six potential crimes by Sean Purdy and Jerry Cox, as well as Booker. BONITA (CNS) - A 51-year-old bicyclist was seriously injured Thursday in a collision with a cement-mixer truck near Chula Vista Golf Course.The man was riding west on Sweetwater Road in Bonita shortly before 9:30 a.m. when the driver of the construction vehicle, heading the same direction, made a right turn and hit him at Briarwood Road, according to the California Highway Patrol and firefighting officials.Medics took the victim to Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego for treatment of major but non-life-threatening injuries, said Dan Genevicz, a fire captain with Bonita-Sunnyside Fire Protection District.The accident forced a roughly 30-minute closure of the intersection, Genevicz said. 702

Best Buy informed its employees on Wednesday of plans to close all 250 of its mobile standalone stores in the United States by the end of May, a company spokesperson confirmed. The stores are predominately located within malls and are much smaller than Best Buy's big box stores. The mobile standalone shops are mostly used for the sale of cellphones and accessories. These locations do not sell some of Best Buy's bigger ticket items such as televisions, computers and appliances. The standalone stores are only responsible for 1 percent of Best Buy's overall revenue.Although thousands of employees will be affected by Wednesday's announcement, the company said the goal is to transfer employees currently working in standalone stores into Best Buy's big box locations. Best Buy said that 85 percent of its standalone stores are within 3 miles of a big box store. "Employees will have three months to work with internal recruiters, and field and store leaders across the country are rallying to help transition employees to big box stores and open in-home advisor roles," Best Buy CEO Hubert Joly wrote in a letter to employees, and shared with Scripps.
