SAN FRANCISCO (KGTV) -- A boy who became well known after a photo of him hugging a police officer was widely shared on social media is feared dead along with his family after their SUV fell over a cliff, according to the Associated Press.Authorities say 15-year-old Devonte Hart is feared dead after the family’s vehicle fell 100 feet over a cliff along Highway 1 near County Road 430.Tha California Highway Patrol said 19-year-old Markis Hart, 14-year-old Jeremiah Hart and 14-year-old Abigail Hart died along with their parents, Jennifer and Sarah Hart. "We have every indication to believe that all six children were in there," Mendocino County Sheriff Tom Allmon said. "We know that an entire family vanished and perished during this tragedy."The California Highway Patrol hasn’t determined why the vehicle went over the cliff into the ocean.Devonte gained fame after a photo of him hugging a police officer went viral. In the photo (pictured below) a Portland officer reportedly saw him holding a “free hugs” sign and crying. (KGTV) — Hundreds gathered in Santee on Saturday to call for justice for women of color.A flyer for the march advertised "promoting black and brown unity" and justice for Breonna Taylor and Vanessa Guillén.Breonna Taylor was an EMT who was shot and killed during a no-knock warrant against her boyfriend at her home in March. No drugs were found in her apartment.Vanessa Guillén was a 20-year-old Army specialist who disappeared in April from Fort Hood in Texas. Remains believed to be hers were found near the Army post in July, sparking protests over the military's handling of sexual harassment allegations.A section of Mission Gorge Rd. was blocked off by police for the planned protest. Counter-demonstrators also assembled in the area.One of the demonstration's organizers told ABC 10News that they hope their calls for racial justice are heard by Santee's City Council leaders."Santee has its things, it's known as being racist, and I'm here to change that. That's the goal," said Alana, one of the organizers with East County BIPOC, who adds that she is born and raised in Santee. "We tried to work with City Council and we tried to be a part of a diversity committee, and it was kind of just brushed under the rug. Nothing ever happened."The group is also calling for City Council to create a diversity committee led by people of color, for Santee Mayor John Minto to denounce the Defend East County Facebook group, and to meet with San Diego Sheriff's Department Captain Christina Bavencoff.One demonstrator told ABC 10News, "our message is that minorities can be safe here. SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) - Customs and Border Protection closed three lanes of traffic heading into the United States from Mexico Tuesday morning.In a statement, CBP said it was “to install and pre-position port hardening infrastructure equipment in preparation for the migrant caravan.”One lane of traffic was also closed at the Otay Mesa port of entry.It comes as active-duty troops have been working to add barricades and fencing as part of “Operation Secure Line.”On Tuesday, troops could be seen moving barriers covered with barbed wire along the border, periodically closing the southbound lanes into Mexico.In their statement, CBP officials warned “persons traveling northbound to the U.S. anticipate possible increased wait times because of the lane closures.”Even before the lanes were closed, wait times of six to seven hours had been reported at peak times in the standard lanes. Part of that was due to traffic control by authorities on the Mexican side.Travel as a pedestrian, however, has not appeared to be affected.Rebecca Fodor walked across Tuesday night and said it only took a few minutes. She said she did notice armed troops in camouflage uniforms.“It didn’t really change anything. I think they were just watching for anything suspicious,” she said.The lane closures will remain in effect indefinitely. SEATTLE (AP) — Prosecutors plan to decide on charges against the man who hit two protesters with his car while driving on a Seattle freeway that was closed for Black Lives Matter demonstrations. One of the protesters was killed. Police say Dawit Kelete hit two people at about 1:40 a.m. Saturday. Summer Taylor, a 24-year-old veterinary clinic worker, suffered critical injuries and died Saturday night. Diaz Love was hospitalized in serious condition. The King County prosecutor's office said it was reviewing investigation documents and would decide on charges by Wednesday afternoon. The driver is being held on a .2 million bail. 643
