Say goodbye to another 40 Sears and Kmart stores.Sears Holdings (SHLD), the bankrupt parent company of the two retailers, said Thursday that 11 Kmart locations and 29 Sears stores will close their doors in February 2019 — adding to the nearly 200?locations the company has already said will shut down in coming months.The closures are part of Sears Holdings' efforts to drastically reduce costs and find a viable way forward as it moves through bankruptcy proceedings. The company has?been struggling for several years and is drowning in debt.Liquidation sales at the 40 locations "are expected to begin late next week," the company said.Sears Holdings operated about 1,000 stores as recently as February but has been shuttering underperforming stores. When the company filed for bankruptcy last month, it said it only had about 400 stores that could turn a profit. Now, it's in the process of shedding more dead weight.In its bankruptcy filing, Sears named 142 of its worst-performing stores that would shut down in the coming months. Saudi Arabia has confirmed the death of missing Saudi journalist and Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi in an announcement on Saudi state TV.The Saudis have set up a commission that will investigate Khashoggi's death and will have one month to release a report, according to state TV. The commission will consist of national security officials, the foreign ministry and the interior ministry.Discussions between Khashoggi and those who met him during arrival at the consulate in Istanbul led to an argument and physical altercation that led to his death, the state TV report said.A total of 18 Saudi nationals have now been detained for investigation, the Saudi Press Agency reported.In the announcement on Saudi State TV, it said a royal order has been issued to release Maj. Gen. Ahmed al-Asiri from his duty as the deputy of the intelligence services.Asiri was believed to be the chief architect of the war with Yemen. He was previously the Saudi-led coalition spokesman in the kingdom's war against Yemen's Houthi rebels.The two-star general's position as spokesman made him a household name and he was soon part of the Crown Prince's inner circle.According to several sources, he chose the team involved in Khashoggi's disappearance.In their announcement the Saudis expressed deep regret over Khashoggi's death and the "painful developments" in the case. They affirmed the "commitment of the authorities in the Kingdom to bring the facts to the attention of the public and to hold accountable all those involved," according to a CNN translation of the announcement.Khashoggi disappeared October 2 after going to the Saudi Arabian consulate in Istanbul to obtain paperwork to marry his Turkish fiancée, Hatice Cengiz.She raised the alarm to police just before 5 p.m. on October 2 -- three and a half hours after the journalist entered the consulate. At that time she was still waiting outside.Turkish officials now say they believe that 15 Saudi men who arrived in Istanbul on October 2 were connected to Khashoggi's death. (KGTV) -- Fast-moving floodwaters swept a vehicle away in Santa Clarita Thursday as what is being called an “atmospheric river” set up over the area, according to KABC. The incident happened along Road Runner Road, per tweets from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Santa Clarity Valley station.Due to the flooding the road was shut down. The driver was able to make it out of the vehicle safely thanks to good Samaritans.The man's car was totaled, but before he even had a chance to dry off, a neighbor bought him a replacement SUV, KABC reported.  598

(KGTV) -Business owners in San Ysidro worry that yet another month of restrictions on non-essential travel between the US, Mexico, and Canada could close them for good.For the eighth month in a row, the land borders between the United States and its neighboring countries to the north and south will remain closed to non-essential travel to help limit the spread of COVID-19.Monday U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials confirmed the extension would last through at least December 21st.Geneva Gamez and her family run Tacos La Fronterra in San Ysidro. "It's kind of been a roller coaster ever since. Everything keeps changing," said Gamez. The agreement continues the hold on tourism and recreational trips, but essential business and trade are not affected. Crossing for educational or medical reasons is also permitted. "You don't get much traffic down there unless somebody is going into Mexico or coming back from Mexico," said Gamez.Gustavo De La Fuente is the executive director of the Smart Border Coalition. He said the impact of the restrictions is far-reaching." You're looking at a little over 700 businesses that could close definitely, and that's actually very worrisome," said De La Fuente. The holiday season is when many of the business owners make most of their money."This is the time of the year when 80% or more of their sales are coming for the entire year, their sales are most of their sales are concentrated in these last 5, 6 weeks of the year," said De La Fuente. SAN YSIDRO (KGTV)-- Activists for deported veterans are concerned as US Customs and Border Patrol agents call artists, asking them to paint over their work.On the Mexico side of Friendship Park, inside Friendship Circle, an upside-down American flag with white crosses for stars, stands as a reminder, bringing awareness to deported veterans and the difficulty they face."It's like an SOS in the military if you're being overrun by the enemy, and part of that was you know, we need help," Advocate Hector Barajas said."I think veterans should do their time, or should receive some kind of treatment instead of getting deported, you know if you get in trouble," he said. Barajas said the veterans who were deported were convicted of a crime and not citizens of the U.S. Back in the days of the Vietnam War, Barajas said the U.S. took anyone who was willing to fight.In Tijuana, Barajas not only co-founded the mural in 2013, he's helped 375 deported veterans in Mexico, from 40 different countries. His shelter and resource center, Deported Veterans Support House, provides food, clothing and shelter, as they transition to life in Mexico.Barajas?was a deported veteran himself, and seeing that flag gave him hope.On the other side of the flag are names of deported veterans, some have "RIP" painted next to their names.Instead of stars, the flag has white crosses. "The crosses of people who made the sacrifice for others to seek the American dream but we've also had others who have died on this side of the border," Barajas said.That part of the mural is what US Customs and Border Patrol is focusing on, according to Barajas, "they asked me if I could paint it to paint away the stars so it didn't look like an American flag."US Customs and Border Patrol released this statement:Barajas told the agent he doesn't maintain the mural and washed his hands of the issue.
