SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 20-year-old man was arrested today on suspicion of attempted murder following a SWAT standoff after a shooting in the City Heights area that sent two people to the hospital, police said.The shooting occurred in the 1800 block of Rowan Street at 9:30 p.m. Friday, according to Lt. Andra Brown of the San Diego Police Department.When officers arrived on scene, they found a 21-year-old man with an apparent gunshot wound to his head, Brown said. The victim directed officers to his companion, who was seated in a nearby car and also appeared to have been shot.The officers provided aid to the victims, who were later taken to a hospital, Brown said. The man who called for help is expected to survive his injuries, but the other victim was not expected to survive.Homicide detectives were called to the scene to investigate. ``While the investigation has just begun, detectives have learned that the two men arrived in San Diego from Central California to meet with a male at 1700 Rowan Street,'' Brown said. ``It is believed the men were meeting to conduct a marijuana transaction. The suspect shot both victims and fled to a nearby residence.''A SWAT team and emergency negotiators arrived and attempted to talk the suspect into surrendering peacefully, the lieutenant said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 40-year-old man was shot and wounded while riding his bicycle early Saturday morning in Logan Heights.The shooting was reported at 1:20 a.m. in the 2900 block of Marcy Avenue, said San Diego police Sgt. Michael Tansey.The victim was riding his bicycle on the sidewalk westbound on Marcy Avenue when someone inside a black Jeep Cherokee that was parked along the north side of the street exited the passenger side and fired several rounds at the victim, Tansey said.The bicyclist was struck twice by the gunfire and fled on his bicycle. He rode into a fast food restaurant in the area of 29th Street and National Avenue, where he was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening wounds, Tansey said.The victim sustained a gunshot wound to his buttocks and left lower leg, Tansey said.The gunman was described as Hispanic, in is mid 20s, wearing a black shirt and dark pants, according to Tansey. 935

Morris, 56, who pleaded guilty in March to one count of embezzlement of government property, was also ordered by U.S. District Judge Larry Burns to pay 8,000 in restitution."Lynn Morris capitalized on her position at the FBI to line her own pockets with stolen government funds," said Assistant Attorney General Brian A. Benczkowski of the Justice Department's Criminal Division. "This conviction demonstrates the Department of Justice's commitment to investigating and prosecuting government employees who abuse their authority. Individuals who violate the public trust will be held accountable."Between July 2014 and November 2016, Morris embezzled 9,821 that belonged to the United States and converted the funds for her own personal use, according to documents submitted in connection with her plea.The funds were in an account owned by the FBI San Diego Division's Asset Forfeiture Unit, where Morris was a paralegal specialist and the AFU's designated coordinator.The court found that Morris also embezzled ,010 from an additional AFU account and stole ,351 from FBI evidence rooms.Morris admitted that to convert government funds to her own use, she used her knowledge and position within the FBI to withdraw cash from the AFU's account undetected and deposited portions of the stolen proceeds into her personal checking account. 1545

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – A wildlife overpass near Salt Lake City is proving to be successful at helping animals safely migrate over a busy interstate.The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (UDWR) hailed the Parley's Canyon overpass a success in a recent Facebook post, saying it has also helped motorists stay much safer as well.In its Facebook post, UDWR included video that show many animals using the overpass to safely cross to the other side of Interstate 80. Cameras set up along the bridge captured moose, bears, porcupines, squirrels, mountain lions, deer, coyotes, and other critters.The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) and Utah State University have been monitoring the overpass throughout the year.The overpass opened in December 2018. UDOT says it spans six lanes of interstate and was constructed to improve safety on I-80 by reducing wildlife and vehicle collisions.UDOT coordinated with UDWR on the wildlife issues specific to the project, including wildlife migration patterns.While it may be tempting to visit the bridge in an attempt to spot some critters, UDWR says to keep off the overpass and not disturb the animals. 1154
