Jackie Wilkinson recently picked up an unknown call at her home.Her cable company was showing on her caller ID, so Wilkinson did what she normally doesn't do with unexpected calls: she answered. "It appeared that Spectrum was calling, our provider for internet, phone and cable services, so I answered, " Wilkinson said.Other customers report receiving similar calls that show up as Cox, Comcast, Xfinity, Charter, Optimum, and others.The caller immediately offered to help lower her bill, so Wilkinson perked up."He asked, 'Do you want to save money?" Wilkinson said. "Naturally, in this day and age, who doesn't want to save money? So I said yes, and he said, 'Great, now tell me how much you are paying.'"But that last comment from the phone rep raised a red flag."These are questions I would think Spectrum would already know," she said. "They can see your billing price right there!"Who was really calling?When the caller then told her she could save money by signing up for a satellite TV service instead, Wilkinson realized it wasn't really Spectrum Cable on the line.Instead, it was a case of "spoofing," where a fake number shows on your caller ID.Scammers have been spoofing the numbers of the FBI and IRS for several years now and getting people to answer the phone that way. It was only natural they'd start pretending to be your cable company.We contacted Spectrum, and the company said it has other complaints about these calls.It recently sent out a warning to customers saying: "If an offer doesn't sound right, customers may ask the representative on the phone to validate they are an employee by looking up their account number. Spectrum representatives will always have an account number." Then call your company (at their customer service number on your bill) and ask if there is any such person working there.Wilkinson just wants to warn others."If you see your cable company calling, you think its important," Wilkinson said. "The phone number appears on your phone as if they are the cable company, so everything seemed legitimate up until the questions." But cable providers never call you to chat about lowering your bill or offering a discount. JUPITER, Florida —  It's now a sprawling sex trafficking investigation involving many jurisdictions and ensnaring wealthy, powerful suspects, but it began with a health inspector observing curious details suggesting women might be living at a Jupiter, Florida, day spa.Since at least July, after a state Health Department employee alerted police to signs of human trafficking, authorities had suspected Orchids of Asia Day Spa was providing more than massages and facials. Their suspicions were buttressed by a preliminary investigation that uncovered a seemingly all-male clientele and internet postings describing the spa as a "rub and tug," according to a police affidavit.Police requested the Florida Department of Health conduct a "routine inspection," and the department sent one of its inspectors there November 14. She reported back that the spa housed two rooms with beds, sheets and pillows, the affidavit said. There were also dressers containing medicine and clothing, as well as a fridge with food and condiments, it said.The findings, police and the health department determined, were "consistent with individuals living inside," the affidavit said.Taking a closer lookThis led a Jupiter detective to ramp up the investigation. Investigators pulled bags from a Dumpster and found a ripped-up ledger, credit card receipts and napkins wet with semen, the affidavit said.Police staked out the business, watching man after man enter the spa and leave after 30 minutes or an hour, the affidavit said. Italian law now requires vehicles to have a safety device that alerts drivers if a child has been left behind in the rear seat or a car seat.The law went into effect Thursday and is designed to prevent hot car deaths. Some devices will send visual and audible alerts when someone gets out of the car, according to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. Other devices will send signals to the driver's smartphone that it is out of range from the sensor on the child's car seat.Fines between 88 and 333 Euros can be imposed and drivers can lose points on their licenses. A second infraction would mean the driver's license would be suspended for at least 15 days.The law applies to parents of children under 4 years of age.The ministry says the devices are available online and in stores specializing in children's items. Parents at some point will be able to submit a receipt to the government to recoup incentive money. I was still in shock like how did the fire even happen?"Rachel McRee was in the restroom when she heard a loud explosion come from the kitchen where her boyfriend, Raveen Sugantheraj, had been cooking. "We didn't even realize that he had been burned," McRee said. The kitchen was on fire. So our first priority was putting that out."Once the couple finally put the fire out near the stove top, they realized that Sugantheraj had been severely burned. "It's his arms, his face, his neck, his hands, his ear," McRee said. "I feel terrible for him and the pain that he's in. I just feel horrible, you know, he's in so much pain," she said. "I've watched him get his bandage changed. He's got raw skin. It's like ten to 15 percent of his body that's just burnt off."Sugantheraj was in the hospital undergoing surgery on Friday."They're having to do skin grafts, severe ones. One is going to be pigskin, one's going to be his own skin," Sugantheraj's girlfriend said. She is not sure of his recovery time. The cause of the fire? A can of Pam cooking spray kept too close to open flames. "He's a full-time med student. He's educated. He's very smart... He had no idea - I had no idea," McRee said. "We know to keep cooking oil away, especially not on the stove top, but we had placed it far enough to where we thought it was OK."The medical director in Eskenazi's emergency department, Dr. Tyler Stepsis, said aerosol bottles like Pam make oils even more flammable. She said that this is a common occurrence. "You not only have the thing your aerosolizing but you also have the propellant. And the propellant a lot of times is what can catch fire," Dr. Stepsis said. As a warning: "When you set it down, don't put it by your stove, put it very far away because I don't want this to happen to anybody else," McRee said. Doctors say, bottom line, know what you're cooking with and keep it a safe distance from flames.
