After days of searching, they find out their dogs were adopted from local shelters.“I would give anything to have him back,” says Valeria Mega?a. The Spring Valley family’s poodle mix, named Cookie, has been missing since Halloween. “Its been really hard. Life is not the same without him.”After searching day and night, the family got word cookie was placed at the El Cajon Animal Shelter. When Mega?a checked, she was told Cookie had already been adopted.A similar situation happened to a family in City Heights. Nora Avila says she was out of town when her dog Mocha, who was staying with a neighbor, got out. By the time she made it to the San Diego Humane Society, he had already been adopted.“We pleaded with them to let the family know… that we loved him. He was never abandoned,” says Avila.The El Cajon Animal Shelter and the San Diego Humane Society have holding periods four days for animals with no identification.Cookie and Mocha were not microchipped. “One in three pets in their lifetime is missing at some point, that’s why for us again, it is so important that people microchip their pets,” says Jennifer Brehler, with the San Diego Humane Society.Both shelters tell 10News they have notified the adopters but they have decided to not return the animals.The families are hoping they will have a change of heart. SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) — Thirty-four people were arrested after Border Patrol agents intercepted two smuggling boats in less than 24 hours.The first boat was spotted around 11:15 a.m. on Sunday by a Department of Homeland Security aircraft. Less than an hour later, U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) Air and Marine Operations agents were able to stop the vessel about one-mile southeast of Point Loma.Twenty-one people were arrested, including four who are alleged smugglers — two of which are U.S. citizens. The remaining 17 people on board were Mexican nationals. Once the boat made it to shore, 14 people began running from Border Patrol agents. Thirteen people were captured, but one got away. Eleven of the arrested were Mexican nationals and two were Chinese Nationals. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a heat advisory through Thursday for the coastal areas and Friday for the inland valleys in San Diego County.The hot weather and dry fuels create dangerous fire weather conditions, keeping fire crews across the county on high alert.“At nine, it already felt significantly warmer than the last couple of days,” said Elizabeth Conniff as she ended her hike at Iron Mountain Trailhead. “It was pretty hot, hotter than I expected, and very dry.”Poway reached nearly 100 degrees before noon Tuesday, nearing record-breaking temperatures for this time of year.Conniff, an experienced hiker, said that she would not recommend hiking during this time.Hotter temperatures are forecasted for Wednesday and Thursday.“If it’s going to be 100 or over, stay home, and that is from somebody who hikes three or four days a week,” she said.The NWS warns the hot weather could cause heat-related illnesses and recommends that people stay hydrated and out of the sun.Firefighting agencies ask everyone to remain vigilant and be extra cautious about doing anything that could spark a wildfire. 1141

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A woman who drove off a Northern California cliff last month in an SUV carrying her wife and children was drunk, authorities said Friday.Toxicology tests found Jennifer Hart had an alcohol level of 0.102, said California Patrol Capt. Bruce Carpenter. California drivers are considered drunk with a level of 0.08 or higher.Toxicology tests also found that her wife Sarah Hart and two of their children had "a significant amount" of an ingredient commonly found in the allergy drug Benadryl, which can make people sleepy. Toxicology results for a third child killed are still pending, Carpenter said.Carpenter said none of the car's occupants were wearing seatbelts.Sarah and Jennifer Hart and their six adopted children were believed to be in the family's SUV when it plunged off a cliff in Mendocino County, more than 160 miles (250 kilometers) north of San Francisco.Authorities have said that data from the vehicle's software suggested the crash was deliberate, though the California Highway Patrol has not concluded why the vehicle went off an ocean overlook on a rugged part of coastline. A specialized team of accident investigators is trying to figure that out with help from the FBI, Carpenter said.Five bodies were found March 26 near the small city of Mendocino, a few days after Washington state authorities began investigating the Harts for possible child neglect, but three of their children were not immediately recovered from the scene.Two more are missing and another body has been found but not identified.The 100-foot (31-meter) drop killed the women, both 39, and their children Markis Hart, 19; Jeremiah Hart, 14; and Abigail Hart, 14.
