FORT MYERS, Fla. — A Fort Myers, Florida, parent says there is such a thing as being overly cautious when it comes to COVID-19 safety.Lexington Middle School told Sheila Gayle’s eighth grade daughter to quarantine for 10 days because of what they thought were COVID-19 symptoms. But, mom says it’s just “that time of the month.”Her daughter went back to school today, but not before taking a trip to see her doctor after she reported feeling tired. The district required her to either quarantine until October 23 or show proof that it wasn’t COVID-19.So, instead of dropping off her daughter at school Tuesday morning, Gayle had to visit to Physicians’ Primary Care for a doctor’s note saying her daughter’s menstrual cycle caused the fatigue.“This what it’s come down to, so every month I have to come when she’s on her cycle? It’s just ridiculous at this point,” she said.Gayle says Monday afternoon, her daughter told the school nurse she had just started her cycle and felt tired. No fever, no body aches, just tired.“Just to have fatigue, because you’re tired? That’s unacceptable,” said Gayle.The nurse gave the student a form, indicating her fatigue could be related to COVID-19.A spokesperson for the School District of Lee County referred us to their website, pointing out students can return to school sooner if a doctor proves symptoms are caused by something other than the coronavirus.Gayle said she had two options. Either quarantine her daughter, which would also mean quarantine her siblings enrolled in other Lee County schools, or take time off work and get the doctor’s note. She chose the latter, hoping she won’t have to go through this again next month.“I just feel like this whole system needs to be re-evaluated,” said Gayle.The district said as of now students are not required to quarantine if a sibling has COVID-19 related symptoms. Former MLB players Luis Valbuena and Jose Castillo have been killed in a car crash in Venezuela, according to multiple media reports.  The two were teammates on a winter ball team in Venezuela at the time of the crash on Thursday. Castillo was 37 at the time of his death and finished his career with the Houston Astros. We are forecasting a 42% annual rate of decline in real GDP for the current quarter, followed by a 'Nike swoosh' recovery that won't return the level of output to the prior fourth quarter of 2019 peak until early 2023," writes UCLA Anderson Forecast senior economist David Shulman in an essay titled "The Post-COVID Economy."The researchers note that the economy has already hit rock bottom. But GDP and employment levels won’t see a quick recovery.But Shulman said that the entire economic meltdown cannot be blamed on the coronavirus. Ron DeSantis says he’s concerned about the accuracy of COVID-19 test results.In a news conference Monday, he said there have been several cases where people received positive results, even though they had never been tested in the first place.“For that to come back positive, when there was no specimen submitted, is problematic. So I’ve heard it enough to be concerned about it," said DeSantis.People have said they submitted their contact information at a COVID-19 testing site, but after seeing how long the line was, they decided not to wait an hour or more to get the test. Nevertheless, a few days later, they got an email or a phone call telling them that they tested positive.Representatives at the Centurylink Sports Complex testing site say false positives aren’t possible there, because of how they have it set up.The Florida Department of Health says, at Centurylink, you submit your contact information right before you get tested. So if somebody were to get out of line, they wouldn’t have had the chance to hand over their phone number or email.But not all testing sites are the same.We reached out to Lee Health, which operates several testing sites of its own. Those sites operate by appointment only, and they do take contact info beforehand, but Lee Health says it has not yet had any issues with mixed up results, and it takes several steps to make sure the results get to the right person.The health system says its sites verify the patient’s identity when they arrive. Then, the person who conducts the test signs and dates each specimen.
