Five days after the tragic bus crash in Saskatchewan, Canada involving a junior hockey team's bus, the team's trainer, Dayna Brons, died on Wednesday as result of her injuries. Brons, 25, became the 16th confirmed fatality from Friday's bus crash involving the Humboldt Broncos. "Dayna will be forever remembered for her joyful smile, and her passion and love of sport," her family said in a statement.The team was traveling from Humboldt to its playoff game in Nipawin, Saskatchewan when a semi-trailer plowed into the bus, which carried 29 people. TSN reported that as of Wednesday, 10 people remain hospitalized from last week's crash.The Broncos play in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, which is made up of players aged 16 to 21, who compete at junior hockey's second-highest level. Also on Wednesday, the league opted to continue with its playoffs. Nipawin, which held a 3-1 series lead over Humboldt, will advance to the league finals to take on Estevan. After being separated at an early age, they've reunited and they say it was all because of COVID-19."To find out how I got to find her was because it was the Lord’s blessing," said Doris Crippen.Doris may be the first person happy about getting COVID-19."No, I seen her once when she was a baby and I held her. And the rest of my life growing up I never thought I’d find her again," said Crippen.Doris and Bev Boro were two long-lost sisters and are now reunited at Methodist Fremont Health."Our search is over, we don't have to look anymore," said Crippen.Boro is a medication aide at the hospital, and when she recently saw a list of patient names, one caught her attention -- Crippen's. So she wrote a message on a dry erase board since Doris is hard of hearing."I went in with one of the whiteboards and I said to her, 'is your father Wendall Huffman?' She goes 'that's my daddy', and I pointed at myself and I go 'that's mine, too.'" said Boro.Crippen, who has since recovered from COVID-19, was in the hospital for a broken arm after a fall due to weakness caused by the virus."I looked at her and I looked at her some more after she asked me about being Wendall Huffman’s daughter... she has to be some kind of relation to me,” said Doris.Boro said she was nervous about breaking the news and for Crippen it was emotional."She said 'I am your sister, Bev.' And I literally stood up out of the chair and burst into tears. It's just a happy feeling. It's been 53 years since I've seen her when she was a baby,” said Crippen.Boro had researched her sister before, without luck, but now thanks to a global pandemic, they both feel their world is a little more complete."If it wasn't for that, I would have never found her. Fentanyl is now the most commonly used drug involved in drug overdoses, according to a new government report. The latest numbers from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Health Statistics say that the rate of drug overdoses involving the synthetic opioid skyrocketed by about 113% each year from 2013 through 2016.The number of total drug overdoses jumped 54% each year between 2011 and 2016. In 2016, there were 63,632 drug overdose deaths.According to Wednesday's report, which analyzed death certificates for drug overdose deaths between 2011 and 2016, fentanyl was involved in nearly 29% of all overdose deaths in 2016. In 2011, fentanyl was involved in just 4% of all drug fatalities. At the time, oxycodone was the most commonly involved drug, representing 13% of all fatal drug overdoses.From 2012 to 2015, heroin became the most frequently involved drug in overdose deaths. In 2011, the number of fatal heroin overdoses was 4,571, or 11% of all drug fatalities. In 2016, that number more than tripled to 15,961 deaths, representing a quarter of all drug overdoses that year.The authors of the new study also found that most overdoses involved more than one drug. In 2016, 2 in 5 cocaine-related overdose deaths also involved fentanyl. Nearly one-third of fentanyl-related overdoses also involved heroin. FORT MYERS, Fla. — A Fort Myers, Florida, parent says there is such a thing as being overly cautious when it comes to COVID-19 safety.Lexington Middle School told Sheila Gayle’s eighth grade daughter to quarantine for 10 days because of what they thought were COVID-19 symptoms. But, mom says it’s just “that time of the month.”Her daughter went back to school today, but not before taking a trip to see her doctor after she reported feeling tired. The district required her to either quarantine until October 23 or show proof that it wasn’t COVID-19.So, instead of dropping off her daughter at school Tuesday morning, Gayle had to visit to Physicians’ Primary Care for a doctor’s note saying her daughter’s menstrual cycle caused the fatigue.“This what it’s come down to, so every month I have to come when she’s on her cycle? It’s just ridiculous at this point,” she said.Gayle says Monday afternoon, her daughter told the school nurse she had just started her cycle and felt tired. No fever, no body aches, just tired.“Just to have fatigue, because you’re tired? That’s unacceptable,” said Gayle.The nurse gave the student a form, indicating her fatigue could be related to COVID-19.A spokesperson for the School District of Lee County referred us to their website, pointing out students can return to school sooner if a doctor proves symptoms are caused by something other than the coronavirus.Gayle said she had two options. Either quarantine her daughter, which would also mean quarantine her siblings enrolled in other Lee County schools, or take time off work and get the doctor’s note. She chose the latter, hoping she won’t have to go through this again next month.“I just feel like this whole system needs to be re-evaluated,” said Gayle.The district said as of now students are not required to quarantine if a sibling has COVID-19 related symptoms.
