MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexico's foreign affairs ministry has formally asked the United States government to conduct a thorough investigation into a Jan. 1 incident in which U.S. agents fired tear gas into Mexico to stop crossing migrants. In a statement Thursday, the ministry said through its embassy that it lamented any violent acts along its border. It reiterated its commitment to the safety of migrants. In the first hours of the new year, about 150 migrants attempted to breach the border fence in Tijuana. U.S. Customs and Border Protection said that agents fired gas at migrants throwing rocks. It said it was investigating.RELATED: Roughly 150 migrants attempt to climb border fence, throw rocks at Border Patrol agentsBut an Associated Press photographer at the scene only saw rocks thrown after agents fired gas as migrants scaled the fence. The confrontation was at least the second time in a little over a month that U.S. authorities have fired tear gas into Tijuana. The action drew sharp criticism from politicians and activists on both sides of the border and raised questions about the use of force against migrants. 1135

Mail deliveries could be delayed by a day or more under cost-cutting efforts being imposed by the new postmaster general. The plan eliminates overtime for hundreds of thousands of postal workers and says employees must adopt a "different mindset” to ensure the Postal Service survives the coronavirus pandemic. "The initial step in our pivot is targeted on transportation and the soaring costs we incur, due to late trips and extra trips, which costs the organization somewhere around 0 million in added expenses," the 2-page notice states. The plan calls for limiting overtime, late or extra trips are "no longer authorized or accepted.""One aspect of these changes that may be difficult for employees is that.- temporarily - we may see mail left behind or mail on the workroom floor or docks (in P&DCs), which is not typical."Postal Service leaders say in a document obtained by The Associated Press that if postal distribution centers are running late, “they will keep the mail for the next day."The document is dated July 10, and says many of the changes will happen immediately. The changes come a month after a major donor to President Donald Trump, Louis DeJoy, took over the sprawling mail service. 1221

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Government officials in Kentucky say they'll be investigating the city of Louisville's handling of the fatal police shooting of Breonna Taylor. The Louisville Metro Council's government oversight committee announced its intentions Monday. News outlets report the Metro Council's next meeting is scheduled for July 23. Jean Porter, a spokeswoman for Mayor Greg Fischer, says the mayor welcomes the review. Protesters have been calling for the officers involved in Taylor's death to be charged. Taylor, a 26-year-old Black woman, was killed in her Louisville home in March by police who were serving a no-knock warrant in a drug investigation. No drugs were found, and one of the officers was recently fired. 737

Many gamers have been frustrated by the lack of availability of PlayStation 5 units since its release earlier this month. On Black Friday, many stores had a handful of units for sale, and in response, people lined up for hours in hopes of scoring the coveted gaming console. The PlayStation 5 marked Sony’s newest generation console since the PlayStation 4 was released at the end of 2013. The PlayStation 5’s release coincides with Microsoft’s release this month of the XBOX Series X. The XBOX Series X has also had a limited supply. Some are using the initial scarcity of the console for profit.Bids on Ebay are showing PlayStation 5 consoles for selling for more than ,000. The console retails for 9.99.In a statement to gaming website gamesindustry.biz, Sony denied claims by Bloomberg that it was cutting production of PlayStation units. “While we do not release details related to manufacturing, the information provided by Bloomberg is false," the statement reads. "We have not changed the production number for PlayStation 5 since the start of mass production."The PlayStation 5 offers a complete redesign to PlayStation’s classic controller. It also delivers graphics that are akin to powerful, more expensive gaming computers. But some experts say if you’re unable to initially score a PS5 to not fret. The initial offering of games is slim, but with time, the number of games available for the PS5 platform will grow. 1438

Mark Kelly, a former astronaut and husband of former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, was sworn in as a U.S. senator on Wednesday afternoon.Kelly, a Democrat, defeated Sen. Martha McSally in a November special election. McSally had been appointed by Gov. Doug Ducey to serve in the seat once occupied by Sen. John McCain, who died in 2018.Because Kelly was elected in a special election, he is being sworn in ahead of newly-elected Senators, who will assume their roles early next year.Kelly's seat is one of three Democrats flipped on election day, while Republicans were able to flip one seat back into their control. Control of the chamber remains dependant on the outcome of two runoff elections in Georgia, which will take place in January.During his NASA career, Kelly flew four missions to space and totaled more than 54 days outside of the Earth's atmosphere. His twin brother, Scott, is also an astronaut.Kelly's first foray into politics came via his wife. Giffords was first elected as a congresswoman in 2006, but in 2011, a gunman shot her in the head during an assassination attempt. She survived the shooting but resigned her seat in early 2012 to focus on the recovery.Kelly is at least the second former astronaut to serve in the U.S. Senate, following in the footsteps of John Glenn, who was the first man to orbit the earth and served as a senator representing Ohio from 1974 to 1999. 1403
