SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The place where an 87-year-old woman was hit and killed by a FedEx truck, is now covered with candles, flowers, and messages from loved ones.Mary Francel was a mother to eight and grandmother to dozens more.She was walking back from church and crossing a driveway on Balboa Avenue near Mount Albertine Avenue when the FedEx truck hit her. The driver immediately stopped after the crash."She was very much well-loved and she put all of us first at all times, it was never about her," said Joey Villegas, one of Francel's grandchildren. "I wrote her and told her thank you, for how much she taught us. Me and my brother, she basically helped raise us when we were young."Villegas says his grandma loved bingo, drove a big truck and was incredibly devoted to her family and friends.At this time the driver has not been arrested or cited for the accident.   890

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The woman accused of running over her neighbor during a domestic dispute in Chollas View pleaded not guilty Friday. San Diego Police said Tantrina Spencer-Simmons, 24, was beating her 8-year-old sister with a belt on the 200 block of 47th Street Wednesday. Spencer-Simmons’ 50-year-old neighbor, James Shank, tried to stop her but she put the girl in her SUV. 10News spoke to Shank's wife, Zena Salsbury at her home before the arraignment. She said the incident started when she witnessed her downstairs neighbor, Spencer-Simmons beating her little sister with a belt. As a double amputee, Salsbury could not go downstairs to stop it so she asked her husband to make sure the girl was safe. Salsbury said Spencer-Simmons hit Shank with her car and ran over him before driving away. "You can literally see as the victim is basically cast out from behind the car, the car lurches over and drives off," Erickson said. "She doesn't stop, doesn't hesitate, and literally takes off."Salsbury told 10News her husband now has a broken nose, shattered pelvis, punctured lung, and may need his arm amputated. He is still sedated, undergoing several more surgeries this week. Erickson said Spencer-Simmons turned herself in and was arrested on Market Street. Her bail was set at million. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Port of San Diego is kicking off another season of Waterfront Summer service.The service, which is now in its seventh season, provides transportation along the waterfront for per day.The shuttle, provided by the Port, will connect visitors and residents to businesses and attractions along the waterfront.According to the Port, the shuttle runs on a loop every 20 minutes from the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina on Harbor Island to Harbor Drive Bridge with several stops in between.The shuttle will run every day from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. during the summer season.
