A storm system causing severe weather Sunday along the Gulf Coast is forecast to move off the East Coast, turn into a nor'easter and threaten the Northeastern United States on Monday night into Tuesday. The storm's exact path remains a bit uncertain, but the system will bring precipitation and wind in what will be the third significant winter storm in the past 10 days.A winter storm watch is in effect for 8.5 million people in New England, including residents of Boston and Portland, Maine. The National Weather Service Boston estimated 6 to 8 inches of snow for parts of Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut.New York, Philadelphia and Washington are only under a hazardous weather outlook at this time. The next forecast update will come at 8 p.m. on Sunday. The American model forecasts heavy snowfall for areas of New England and upstate New York, whereas the European model shows less snowfall. Still, both models agree there will be more snow on the way for the Northeast. If the nor'easter tracks closer to the coast, then stronger winds and coastal flooding may become issues as well.Last weekend, a powerful nor'easter that morphed into a "bomb cyclone" slammed much of the Northeast with heavy snow and rain, hurricane-force wind gusts, and significant coastal flooding. The storm left six people dead from falling trees, and about 900,000 people lost electrical power. As residents were still digging out from that snow, a second storm hit the Northeast late last week. The storm dropped heavy, wet snow in areas west of Interstate 95, leaving feet of snow in some areas. One 88-year-old woman died Wednesday when a tree fell and struck her in Suffern, in southern New York, police said. This winter's snowfall totals so far sit around the annual average at this point for the major Northeast hubs of Boston, New York and Philadelphia, according to the National Weather Service. 1937

A newly married man hasn't had much time to celebrate his marriage as he's been in the hospital with the rare condition acute flaccid myelitis for more than 100 days.Bridget Williquette and Adam Spoerri got married July 21, 2018. They left for their road trip honeymoon a few days later. But on August 5, Adam had to be taken to the emergency room with a respiratory disease that was affecting his breathing.Adam's body became increasingly paralyzed while in the ER, leaving his chest, arms, lungs, throat, facial muscles and neck without feeling. He was admitted to the Respiratory Intensive Care Unit that same day and has since been on life support.Adam and Bridget now communicate through writing on paper, as Adam's hands and wrists were not affected by paralysis as much as other areas of his body.He has been doing daily occupational and physical therapy and has made progress in being able to hold his head up on his own.A GoFundMe page has been set up for Adam and Bridget. So far ,538 has been raised.Acute flaccid myelitis is a rare, polio-like condition that affects the nervous system, and specifically the spinal cord, causing muscles and reflexes in the body to become weak according to the Centers for Disease Control. Less than one in 1 million people in the U.S. get AFM every year. 1335

A recent study by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that 6% of more than 3,000 health care workers who were tested had antibodies to coronavirus. Still, after being retested 60 days later, 28% of them had antibody levels so low they were no longer detected."These results suggest that serology testing at a single time point is likely to underestimate the number of persons with previous SARS-CoV-2 infection, and a negative serologic test result might not reliably exclude prior infection," the authors of the study said.According to the CDC, blood samples were taken from 3,248 frontline health care personnel at 13 hospitals between April 3- June 19, 2020.194 of those healthcare workers had detectable antibodies to COVID, the agency said.Participants with higher initial antibody responses were more likely to have antibodies detected at the follow-up test than were those who had a lower initial antibody response, the study concluded. The authors added that the study shows that the window is limited for collecting potentially useful "convalescent plasma" from the blood of patients who have fought off COVID-19. 1151

A new toilet is headed to the International Space Station this week, in addition to new foods to grow and beauty products. The million toilet system is known as the Universal Waste Management System. It’s 65 percent smaller and 40 percent lighter than the toilet currently used on the space station.“I know it’s a toilet and I get a big laugh from my friends all the time, ‘Oh, he’s building a toilet.’ But it’s not just a toilet, it’s a titanium space toilet,” said Jim Fuller, Program Manager for the UWMS project at Collins Aerospace. That hefty price tag includes fans to create “gentle air flow to help collect waste in microgravity,” and will help NASA reach their “goal of 98 percent water recovery for deep space missions.” The new system can also handle larger crews, requires less maintenance, and better accommodates female astronauts. 856
