CINCINNATI, Ohio - Cincinnati Reds and Fox Sports Ohio broadcaster Thom Brennaman tells WCPO he has resigned from his position more than one month after he was suspended for using a homophobic slur on air.“My family and I have decided that I am going to step away from my role as the television voice of the Cincinnati Reds,” Brennaman wrote to WCPO. “I would like to thank the Reds, Reds fans, and the LGBTQ community for the incredible support and grace they have shown my family and me.“Brennaman has been suspended from the Cincinnati Reds since the Aug. 19 incident. He had been with the Reds since 2006.“I have been in this profession that I love for 33 years,” he wrote. “It is my hope and intention to return. And if I'm given that opportunity, I will be a better broadcaster and a much better person.“WCPO reached out to the Cincinnati Reds and Fox Sports Ohio for comment."The Reds respect Thom Brennaman’s decision to step away from the broadcast booth and applaud his heartfelt efforts of reconciliation with the LGBTQ+ community," team CEO Bob Castellini wrote in a statement. "The Brennaman family has been an intrinsic part of the Reds history for nearly fifty years. We sincerely thank Thom for bringing the excitement of Reds baseball to millions of fans during his years in the booth. And, we appreciate the warm welcome Thom showed our fans at Redsfest and on the Reds Caravan. He is a fantastic talent and a good man who remains part of the Reds family forever. We wish him well."The incident happened when the broadcast was returning from a commercial break before the top of the seventh inning in the first game of a doubleheader against the Kansas City Royals. An off-camera Brennaman described an unknown city as "one of the (expletive) capitals of the world" during the broadcast.Fox Sports Ohio later clarified that the audio-only went out to viewers streaming the game, not on over-the-air television.Brennaman apologized later in the second game before leaving the broadcast booth.“I made a comment earlier tonight that I guess went out over the air that I am deeply ashamed of,” Brennaman said. “If I have hurt anyone out there, I can’t tell you how much I say, from the bottom of my heart, I’m so very, very sorry. As it relates to Brennaman’s FOX NFL role, we are moving forward with our NFL schedule which will not include him.”Brennaman had been a part of Fox’s NFL announcer lineup since they started televising the league in 1994. He was part of the No. 3 announcer team last season and was paired with analyst Chris Spielman and reporter Shannon Spake. He had also called Major League Baseball games for the network from 1996 to 2014.Although most regional networks still carry the Fox Sports name, they are not owned by Fox. Makeup enthusiast Alex Langer says she’s never really paid close attention to the amount of product inside the fancy cosmetic bottles."Unless you're a mathematician, you don't know what that really is," says Langer.The NOW’s investigative team looked at some popular brands and found some tricky packaging that seems misleading. (Disclaimer: we are not mathematicians)"I think that there is an ethical issue with trying to convey that there is more in that package than there really is," says marketing expert Darrin Duber-Smith.The NOW looked at two different oils from Olay products. One actually had more product than the other. The company is using what marketers refer to as "downsizing," which started a decade ago."You can make your package thicker, and that way it holds less stuff,” explains Duber-Smith. “You can put a false bottom or a thicker bottom at the bottom…you can fill it, not all the way to the top."Another product from e.l.f. looked as if it was full of product, but when you start unscrewing things and pulling if apart, you learn quickly that looks are very deceiving."Competitors have to kind of have larger packages in order to convey the perception that there's more and more product in there," explains Duber-Smith.Companies, however, cannot lie about the amount on the product’s label. The companies are required to be precise about what’s included on labels and the product amount is included."We have labeling requirements,” explains Duber-Smith. “We have regulatory agencies that do oversee these things."Packaging can change your perception dramatically. Each bottle of foundation we looked at differed in design, but the amount in the bottles were the same."I would agree completely that it's very misleading to consumers,” Duber-Smith says. “And my feeling is that if your intent is to deceive you have an ethical issue."So before you purchase your next beauty product, pay attention and make sure you are checking the labels; don't be deceived by pretty packaging. 2264

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. — A Florida family says they were recently targeted by a terrifying kidnapping scam.Katie and Steve Watson live in Coral Springs, Florida and want to warn families about the crime.Katie tells WPTV that she received a call on Monday from a number she didn’t recognize. On the line she heard a whimpering child, then a mysterious man say he had kidnapped Katie’s daughter, Chloe."All of a sudden a man's voice came on the line, and he said, 'Katie I have your daughter. She's in the back of my van,' " Watson told WPTV on Tuesday.Katie said she quickly hung up, feeling in her gut that it was scam. "That's really part of what gave me the chills was somebody calling me by my name," said Watson. "That was unsettling."Katie says she figured it was a scam, but then got a bad feeling when she checked her daughter’s location through her phone's GPS.It initially said her daughter was at Westglades Middle School in Parkland, which Chloe attends. But then the GPS suddenly jumped to another location in Parkland.Upon further investigation, the Watsons found that her daughter was indeed at school, and more importantly, safe."I got chills all over my body and I was like, OK, I know that was a scam but that's like every parent's worst nightmare is to hear your kid has been kidnapped," said Watson.The FBI calls this a virtual kidnapping scam and says it’s evolved over the years and become more sophisticated.In the calls, a crook says he’s kidnapped your loved one and demands money in exchange for their safe return.In the Watsons' case, however, the scam was taken to a frightening new level with the use of a whimpering child on the line.The FBI offers these tips so you don’t become a victim: 1748
