A man and a woman were arrested in Arkansas on Tuesday after the woman's 1-year-old child was found dead in their bedroom closet. Fayetteville Police say that 21-year-old Tyler Hobbs called dispatchers stating that the child fell down the stairs and started seizing. He said that he performed CPR on the child but could not revive the child. Hobbs told police, “It happened a few days ago.” He explained that he got scared and did not know what to do.When officers arrived on the scene, they spoke with Hobbs and the child’s mother, 21-year-old Maria Giron-Molina.Inside the closet of the bedroom where the couple slept, officers found the child's body decomposing inside a plastic container that was covered with blankets.Hobbs later admitted to investigators that the child was crying uncontrollably and that it was giving him a headache. The child then knocked a picture frame and lamp off of a bedside table. Angered at the child’s refusal to calm down, police say that Hobbs picked the child up and covered its mouth with his hand to “muffle” the crying.Hobbs told investigators that the child hit and scratched him, so he shook the child back-and-forth. Hobbs said he blacked out, and when he “came to”, he saw the child was not breathing.He then performed CPR to attempt to revive the child. His initial effort was successful, but ultimately the child died without ever receiving medical attention, according to police.Hobbs said he was under the influence of marijuana at the time of the child’s death. He expressed remorse for his actions, and he said he did not intend to harm the child, police say.Hobbs was arrested for first-degree murder and abuse of a corpse. Giron-Molina was arrested for abuse of a corpse. 1761

On Monday, 195 Democrats and 28 Republicans endorsed more payroll aid for the industry. But the fate of the proposal is unclear. A growing list of companies in the United States have recently announced that they’ll start recognizing June 19, or Juneteenth, as a permanent company-wide holiday in support of racial diversity.Juneteenth is a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the U.S. On June 19, 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, with news that the Civil War was over, and that all remaining slaves in the state were free.That was more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on Jan. 1, 1863, which declared “that all persons held as slaves” within the rebellious states “are, and henceforward shall be free,” according to the National Archives.Target is among the latest to make Juneteenth a company holiday. The chain made the announcement Monday, saying it wanted to give its employees the space to honor the holiday in their own way. All stores and distribution centers will remain open and hourly team members who work on June 19 will be paid time and a half, like with other holidays. “We recognize that the racial trauma the country is experiencing now is not new, but throughout recent weeks there has been a sense that this time is, and has to be, different,” said Brian Cornell, chairman and CEO at Target. “Juneteenth takes on additional significance in this moment. A high-speed police pursuit has ended in a Phoenix neighborhood as police continue to search the area for at least one suspect.Police say they were following a possible stolen vehicle and attempted to pull the driver over Tuesday when the suspect refused to stop.Helicopter video showed the white SUV in the Biltmore area around noon, going the wrong way in traffic and driving on light rail tracks near Central Avenue and Thomas Road to avoid stoplights. Video from helicopter showed what appeared to be stop sticks deployed on the vehicle that caused a tire to blow near a neighborhood in west Phoenix. The vehicle was then seen driving through multiple front yards and sidewalks around 12:30 p.m. The occupants of the car bailed in front of a home on foot. Police say one woman, the passenger in the vehicle, was taken into custody. The male driver is still missing and believed to be hiding in the neighborhood.Police say the male suspect is believed to be responsible for at least three carjackings. During one of the carjackings Tuesday, a Phoenix police officer tried to intervene and fired shots toward the suspect.
