There's also Kobe Bryant's new basketball analysis show "Detail," which premieres just in time for the NBA playoffs.That all adds up to a ton of content, and it's hard not to feel a bit overwhelmed by the variety. ESPN executives sounded downright breathless last week as they rattled off the number of programs they are bringing to the service."I, personally, am incredibly excited about the potential," new ESPN President Jimmy Pitaro told reporters at the company's Connecticut headquarters. You will still need a cable subscription to watch all the biggest NFL, NBA and college games featured on traditional ESPN networks.And even if you're a fan of the sports touted on ESPN+, you'll still likely need paid access to the ESPN TV channels or another season pass to watch every game.In other words: If you don't already pay for cable, an ESPN+ subscription will give you some of a lot of things, but not all of everything. And you're definitely not getting the big stuff.The Disney-owned ESPN knows this. Pitaro made it pretty clear that he didn't expect customers to treat the new service as a standalone, and described it as "complementary and additive to what you've been getting."Pitaro added that ESPN+ wasn't designed to compete with distributors like Comcast, AT&T and Dish Network's Sling TV that offer cable bundles. All of those companies sell packages that include ESPN's TV channels.All of the ESPN+ content is integrated into a newly redesigned ESPN app, which you can download for your phone or streaming device. It works on all the major platforms, including iPhone, Android, Apple TV, Roku and Amazon Fire.I tested an iPhone version that subscribed to ESPN's TV channels and ESPN+, and it was easy to pull up live games, replays and other clips playing on any of the main ESPN channels or the add-on service. A tab that features game scores for all of my favorite teams was an added bonus.The Apple TV version of the app was just as simple to use, and even allowed me to watch up to four events simultaneously. An ordinary trip to fill up turned eventful last month at the Shell gas station on Santa Fe Drive. "I see a man pull up in a black SUV, brand new and shiny," said Alice. Alice says a man in his 30s got out of the GMC Yukon and approached them."He was in head-to-toe designer clothes," said Alice. In the backseat was a well-dressed woman and a little girl."He says, 'Excuse me, Sir. I'm here vacationing from Dubai with my family and my wallet was stolen,'" said Alice. The man asked for some money for gas and then took out a ring."Here, take my ring. It's worth 0. I have money and plenty of jewelry at home. I just need money for gas and food," said Alice.Alice told the man to keep the ring and then had her husband put in on a pump with their credit card."I believed their story ... I put myself in their shoes. I would be devastated, and I would want someone to help me," said Alice.Days later, she learned from her cousin in Los Angeles those strangers were scammers. "I was the 4th person she knew of personally that this happened to. I was duped," said Alice."Then this past Wednesday, Alice was back at the gas station and filling up, when she saw something familiar," said Alice.It was another new GMC Yukon. Inside was a different family. She saw them talking with a young man, before pulling out a ring. "I ran over put my hand in front of the guy and said, 'You should be ashamed of yourself. This is a scam!" said Alice. She learned the family had a similar story about vacationing from Dubai. The SUV sped off, leaving behind a woman hoping others don't fall victim."It makes me angry. It's the giving season and they take advantage of that. They're actors. They played their part perfectly. They're going to get an Oscars, and I handed them the award," said Alice.Alice believes both vehicles had out-of-state license plates. She says she contacted the sheriff's department but was told this incident would likely be defined as panhandling, which isn't a crime. 2184

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) -- An Escondido-based avocado grower is voluntarily recalling avocados sold in bulk due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Henry Avocado Corporation issued the recall Saturday due to positive test results on environmental samples taken during routine inspection of its packaging facility. So far, there are no reports of illness. The recalled products were packaged at Henry Avocado’s packaging facility and distributed to Arizona, California, Florida, New Hampshire, North Carolina and Wisconsin. Customers can identify the recalled fruit by the “Bravocado” stickers. Henry Avocado organic products do not carry the “Bravocado” label on the sticker. Instead those products are labeled “organic” and include “California” on the sticker.All shipments from the facility are subject to the recall. According to the company, avocados imported from Mexico and distributed by Henry Avocado are not part of the recall. The company said in a news release that it’s contacting all affected customers to make sure the products are removed from shelves. Anyone who purchased the recalled product are urged to discard or return the items for a full refund. ESCONDIDO (CNS) - An argument between two men at a northern San Diego County gym Tuesday turned into a baseball bat assault that sent one of them to a hospital, authorities said.A bystander made a 911 call shortly after 9 a.m. to report the fracas outside LA Fitness in the 300 block of West El Norte Parkway in Escondido, according to police.Witnesses told officers the dispute started as a quarrel inside the business, Sgt. Mike Graesser said.The bickering men eventually made their way outside the gym, at which point one of them went to his car, retrieved a bat and attacked the victim with it, hitting him on the head at least once, Graesser said. The attacker then got into the vehicle, a black sedan, and drove off.Medics took the victim to a hospital for treatment of injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.The assailant remained at large Tuesday afternoon, though police had "a pretty good idea who he is," according to Graesser, who noted that a witness videotaped the assault."We have some good leads," the sergeant said. 1056
