Summertime is almost over, and that means back to the grind. For parents, it can be stressful to get kids back on a good sleep routine.Lauren Preusz is a mother of three young children and knows vacations, cookouts and late bedtimes must come to an end. But how?"Bedtime definitely got pushed back a lot later than normal, and then they were sleeping in later," Preusz said. "But with school coming up they can't be staying up to 9 p.m. or 9:30 p.m., then waking up and getting to school by 8 a.m."She says she's worried about what later bedtimes could do to her children once school begins."I didn't want to worry about behavioral issues at school, or them being too tired to actually be present, participate, and learn," Preusz said.Sleep experts and doctors alike recommending rolling bedtime back about 15- to 20-minute a day until school starts to make sure kids are ready for a new sleep pattern."This is now the time you should be moving the bedtime up and that bedtime routine close to bedtime, so they associate the routine with the actual going to bed," said Dr. Celina Moore, a pediatrician.Preusz hired the Cradle Coach, a team of sleep consultants, to help get her family back in the routine of early bedtimes. The Cradle Coach team says kids need between 10 and 12 hours of sleep per night."Routine is huge," Cradle Coach sleep consultant Janelle Aubert said. "Start bedtime routine about 45 minutes before bed and making sure your child has plenty of time to unwind."In addition, Aubert recommends looking at children's diets and cutting back on sugar. She also says first-time students can experience some sleep regression from the stress of a new routine."Take time to prepare," said Aubert. "Talk about it. Show them pictures and visuals and be sure to increase quality and one-on-one time with them.""Start talking about exactly what's going to happen. Mommy is going to take you in the morning. Daddy is going to pick you up," Aubert said. This story was originally published by Tory Dunnan on 2025

Rep. Steve King, the Iowa Republican who was stripped of his congressional committee assignments earlier this year, was not allowed to fly aboard Air Force One on Tuesday as President Donald Trump traveled to Iowa, two GOP officials say.King, who represents the state's 4th District in Western Iowa, asked the White House to join the President's entourage, but administration officials rejected the request, two officials familiar with the matter told CNN.Republican Sens. Joni Ernst of Iowa and Deb Fischer of Nebraska joined Trump aboard Air Force One. Ernst had not been planning to travel with the President, citing her voting schedule, but ended up flying to Iowa with Trump.King declined to comment about the snub, telling CNN on Wednesday morning that he had nothing to say about the matter.Instead of cruising back to Washington on Air Force One, King buckled himself into seat 1A and sipped a cup of coffee on an American Airlines flight back to the nation's capital. He attended the Republican Party of Iowa's fundraising dinner in West Des Moines on Tuesday evening. He faces a primary challenge in his re-election bid next year. While King has a history of making incendiary remarks around race and immigration, King was removed from his committee assignments and rebuked by members of his own party after giving an interview with The New York Times in January in which he made racist comments. In the article, King, as part of a defense of what he said was the "culture of America," asked how certain terms had become controversial in modern discourse."White nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization — how did that language become offensive?" he told the Times. "Why did I sit in classes teaching me about the merits of our history and our civilization?"King said on the House floor in January that he rejected the ideology of white nationalism and he maintains that his comments were misinterpreted. The House Republican Steering Committee removed King from his committee posts shortly after the comments were publicized in January.Despite the controversy, King refused to step aside from his post in Congress and announced in February he'll run for re-election in 2020. He won his race in 2018 by 3.6 percentage points. 2256

She has had to defend her actions multiple times in the past 24 hours as conservative critics around the nation pick on freshman Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).First, she was booed when she offered her vote to elect Nancy Pelosi as the Speaker of the House on Thursday. Of the 200 Dems who voted for Pelosi, she was the only one who received so many boos.Next, an anonymous Twitter account posted video of Ocasio-Cortez dancing in college. That gesture backfired: The response was more support for her. The Twitter handle was mysteriously deleted. 574

Record high temperatures reportedly measured in Antarctica will take months to verify, the U.N. weather agency said Sunday.A spokesman for the World Meteorological Organization said the measurements made by researchers from Argentina and Brazil earlier this month have to undergo a formal process to ensure that they meet international standards.“A formal decision on whether or not this is a record is likely to be several months away,” said Jonathan Fowler, the WMO spokesman.Scientists at an Argentine research base 531

Several of America's largest retailers and supermarket chains have announced they are limiting their hours amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.Walmart announced Saturday that all of its 24-hour stores currently operating 24-hours will be moving to a 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. operating schedule until further notice."This will help ensure associates are able to stock the products our customers are looking for and to perform cleaning and sanitizing," Dacona Smith, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Walmart, said. "Stores currently operating under more reduced hours (for example they regularly close at 10 p.m. or open at 7 a.m.) will keep their current hours of operation."Kroger, America's largest supermarket chain, will move its hours from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Publix, a supermarket chain based in the southeast U.S., will close at 8 p.m until further notice. The announcements come the same day that Apple said it would close all of its stores outside of Greater China until further notice. 1019
