SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Thousands of San Diego students Friday are expected to take part in the county's largest ever high school walkout on climate change. "I think it's a pivotal moment for youth," said Katelynn Sutton, a senior at High Tech High in Point Loma and event organizer. Around 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sutton will lead dozens of students plan on a walkout. The students will hop on a bus to San Diego's City Hall, where they will attend a public rally for climate action for the rest of the school day."It's going to show adults they need to take action now because we don't have any more time," said Sutton.Around the same time at University City High, senior Summer Camporesi will be leading hundreds of students on a walkout."We'll be meeting in the middle of school and then walking up Genesee [Avenue] to Standley Middle School," said Camporesi.At a park near the school, they will join several hundred middle school students for an hour-long rally, before heading back to class. In all, dozens of schools across San Diego County are expected to take part in the global climate strike, most of them high schools."We're showing it's super important. We're willing to take time out of our education," said Camporesi.Several area school districts, including San Diego Unified and Sweetwater Union High School District, have passed resolutions supporting the youth-led global campaign. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The purple most restrictive tier for coronavirus guidelines goes into effect Saturday forcing many museums around San Diego County to close their doors once again."It really wasn't a surprise and when this all first started happening I think we realized that there wasn't going to be a magic date that everything was going to be better," James Haddan, Senior Director of Development and External Communications at the Museum of Us, said they've been anticipating the county's fall back into the purple tier."We made some hard choices initially, right away," Haddan said they made difficult cuts to staff at the beginning of the pandemic, hoping to sustain for the next two years."It has been extremely difficult for arts and cultural organizations throughout the city and Balboa Park would be no different," Executive Director of the Balboa Park Cultural Partnership Peter Comiskey said.Comiskey said while many of the museums must close, there are still things to do at the park. The Japanese Friendship Garden, Spanish Village, and restaurants are open.In La Jolla, the Birch Aquarium is shifting too. They reopened in July and are creating as many exhibits as they can outside. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The San Diego Zoo's newest resident is getting the hang of life as a rhino.Edward, the southern white rhino, experienced is first trot around the San Diego Zoo Safari Park's Nikita Kahn Rhino Rescue Center Monday.With his mom, Victoria, leading the way, Edward charged around the enclosure and even fit a mud bath into his busy schedule. It was the first time the mom and calf were released from the center's maternity yard and other off-exhibit areas.RELATED: Birth of baby rhino marks major milestone in effort to save critically endangered species“Victoria has been in the exhibit yard before but this was Edward’s first time,” said Jill Van Kempen, senior keeper at San Diego Zoo Safari Park. “The second they entered the exhibit, Victoria just took off, running laps, and it was so fun to see Edward running right along beside her. He was very energetic, sometimes breathing heavily, and even getting all four feet off the ground at times.”For about 30 minutes, the zoo says Edward and Victoria took advantage of the larger space by running around and stretching their legs.Edward was born 23 days ago, becoming the first southern white rhino calf born via artificial insemination in the country. Edward was born weighing about 148 pounds, but now weighs about 243 pounds.
