TULSA, Okla. - Archaeologists said during a press conference on Tuesday that they have encountered human remains on day two of the second test excavation as they search for victims of the 1921 Tulsa race massacre. Archaeologists said they do not know if the remains are from 1921 or not. I am very grateful to have the foremost experts in the country working to locate the remains of victims from the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. Today, our research team found an unmarked grave in an area previously identified through geophysical survey work. The next step will be to identify if the remains are associated with the Tulsa Race Massacre. This will be done through forensic analysis of the remains, and by comparing them with funeral home and death certificate records. We will continue to take this investigation one step at a time, wherever it may lead.Researchers said the investigation is expected to last one week but could extend into a second week, depending on the findings. The archaeologists are focusing on two areas in Oaklawn Cemetery this time around. The first site is adjacent to two 1921 race massacre headstones in the historically Black section of Potters Field; the second is a new dig site located on the Southwest section of the cemetery. In 2018, Mayor Bynum announced the City of Tulsa would re-examine potential graves from the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. That investigation began in 2020 with crews conducting their search along the western edge of the cemetery. Archaeologists conducted extensive test excavations and concluded with no evidence of human remains. However, the search could continue beyond Oaklawn Cemetery. Researchers said several areas are still candidates for possible mass grave sites related to the 1921 Tulsa race massacre. The Canes and Rolling Oaks Memorial Gardens could be next on the list of possible excavation sites. This story was originally published by Tatianna Taylor at KJRH. 1934

UPDATE (3 p.m. ET): Kentucky police are looking for a driver that hit two brothers crossing a busy intersection to get to their bus stop, authorities say.The 11-year-old and 13-year-old were struck at around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday in Louisville, Kentucky. It was at least the sixth time in three days that children were hurt or worse at a bus stop. Two dozen python hunters are outnumbered by the thousands of pythons slithering through the Everglades, but they are making a difference."Some people like the city and the movies, I like the Everglades," said Kyle Penniston. He's one of the 25 hunters licensed by the South Florida Water Management District to track down and kill invasive Burmese Pythons.Though pythons aren't venomous, they have a voracious appetite, and have been known to gobble up anything from deer to alligators."When I was younger, maybe 8, 9 years old, my dad started taking me out to the Everglades," said Penniston. I'd see so many foxes, rabbits, I'd see all kinds of wildlife. Now-a-days, it's very rare to see a possum."Kyle captured an 8-foot python in western Miami-Dade county May 5th, but the python problem is affecting South Florida from coast to coast.Almost a year ago, an Collier County man caught one swallowing one of his pet goats, he shot it while it was in the middle of its meal.Since 2005, there have been python sightings recorded from Lehigh Acres all the way to Greater Miami."It's their fault, they didn't ask to come here they didn't get a ticket, they didn't drive here, they are here because of people," Kyle said of the snakes.Kyle says the pet trade is to blame for the population boom, making matters worse, in 1992, Hurricane Andrew destroyed a python breeding facility, sending more snakes slithering into the wild."You're never going to get every single python, it's just not a possibility because it's a vast area."But Kyle says the South Florida Water Management District's python elimination program is making a dent in the population. The program, which started in March 2017 is closing in on 1,000 kills. That number is low when you consider how many eggs were taken."Also around 2500 eggs have been removed as well."Kyle says although there is a long way to go, he's seen some native wildlife come back in certain areas of the Everglades. He's happy to be part of the solution to the python problem. "It's better to be out here trying to do something, than sitting at home on your couch."Python hunting is forbidden within the boundaries of Everglades National Park, but Congressman Francis Rooney is working with the Trump Administration to make an exception. 2282

Uber announced Thursday that it's introduced safety features in select markets, including a new emergency button.Denver is one of the cities where Uber is testing the new safety features. They're designed to keep riders connected if they need help, so even if they're riding alone, they're never really by themselves.Among the new features is an emergency button that connects users directly to a dispatcher. In some pilot cities, like Denver, once a rider presses the emergency button, their location and trip details will be automatically sent to the 911 dispatcher. There are other initiatives Uber is planning to roll out this summer across the country, and not just in pilot cities. In the "Safety Center," users can find tips from law enforcement, learn things like how Uber screens drivers, and insurance protections. "Trusted Contacts" allows riders to pick up to five friends and family members and share trip details with them during every ride. That way, they can follow you along and know when they've arrived. When it comes to drivers, Uber says it is also strengthening its screening process and will keep doing background checks on drivers every year. They're even investing in technology to let them know if a driver has a new offense.Uber says based on how the 911 pilot goes in Denver, they will decide whether or not to expand to other cities. 1417
