CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A man wanted on suspicion of killing his wife Sunday is believed to be on the run in the San Diego area, police said.The suspect was identified as Francisco Uriarte, 37, who is suspected in the death of his wife at an apartment in the 500 block of Oxford Street, according to Lt. Dan Peak of the Chula Vista Police Department.Chula Vista police were called to the address at 1:38 a.m. Sunday after a report of a domestic violence in progress, Peak said."Upon arrival, officers located three children at the residence," Peak said. "Officers were told (by) the children their mother and father had been in a physical fight."The children also told officers their dad had fled the scene and believed he killed their mother during the fight," Peak said. "The children were not injured from the incident and are currently safe in protective custody."The victim's identity is being withheld pending notification of her family, Peak said."Francisco should be considered armed and dangerous," Peak said. He was last seen wearing a large black overcoat, shorts and flip-flops, he said.The suspect is also believed to have significant injuries to his hands and may try to seek medical attention, Peak said.Uriarte is 5-feet-9-inches tall, 190 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes, Peak said. CHULA VISTA (KGTV) — Three children are recovering Sunday morning after they were struck by a car in the Otay Ranch neighborhood of Montecito Village. The crash happened Saturday just before 5 p.m. on Santa Victoria Avenue, about a block east of Muroaka Elementary School. According to Chula Vista Police, the pedestrians were crossing the street when they were struck by a silver 2018 Toyota Corolla. The children were not in a marked crosswalk.The two younger children were transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for their injuries, said CVPD officer Justin Zualet. Witnesses at the scene described them in good condition.The 15-year old female was transported in critical but stable condition with a head injury, lacerations, and abrasions.Zualet said all are expected to survive.The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Police at the scene said the driver, a male in his 50s, told officers he was using his cell phone at the time of the crash. No further details were given at this time.Drugs and alcohol do not appear factors in the collision, Zualet said. The incident remains under investigation. 1154

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Pastor Art Hodges stood on the steps of Chula Vista City Hall Wednesday, surrounded by about 50 people of faith. "Hear our prayer. Forgive our sin," Hodges said during the group prayer.The people were rallying against a program that calls for drag queens to read to children. Drag Queen Story Hour is scheduled to start Tuesday at the Chula Vista Civic Center Library. At the rally, those opposing the program said it would harm a child's growth and development. They also demanded public hearings."If there are parents that want drag queens to come read books to their children, they have that right. They're the parents, we're not protesting their right," said Hodges. "But they should do that privately, on their own time, in their own place, on their own dollar."Supporters say the program promotes tolerance and acceptance. Chula Vista Mayor Mary Salas called it "preposterous" to have a City Council vote for a one-hour reading program, which she said would not be canceled. "The City of Chula Vista is proud to celebrate the diversity of our community in all of our programs," Salas said in a statement. "The purpose of this event is to encourage children to use their imagination and creativity and most importantly to read."The tone of Wednesday's rally was much different than one held last week, in which tempers flared from the start. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A Chula Vista police officer shot and killed a man who stabbed him several times in the face Tuesday night.Two officers got a call from a resident on Melrose Ave. who said a man threw a piece of concrete the size of a baseball at his head abouut 9 p.m.The officers determined the man was at a home on Monterey Ave. and went to the address at 10:25 p.m., police said.A woman opened the home's front door to the two officers.  The man began assaulting the first officer, police said, and they scuffled.Police tell 10News the man stabbed the officer up to half a dozen times in the head and face. The officer fired several times in self-defense, police said.At least one shot hit the man, who died on his way to the hospital.  CVPD identified him as 27-year-old David Scott.The second officer and the department chaplain, who was on a ridealong, were able to assist the injured officer.
