(CNS) - Authorities publicly identified a 30-year-old Whittier man who was fatally shot by officers after allegedly leading law enforcement on a chase from Orange to San Diego County.The shooting, which happened around 1 a.m. Sunday on southbound Interstate 805 north of Orange Avenue in Chula Vista, involved officers from both the California Highway Patrol and San Diego Police Department, Sheriff's Lt. Thomas Seiver said.Christopher Ulmer of Whittier in Los Angeles County suffered "multiple" gunshot wounds and was taken to a hospital, where he later died, Seiver said.The sheriff's homicide unit is investigating the shooting "due to the multiple jurisdictions involved" in the incident, the lieutenant said.The chase began just before midnight Sunday when Santa Ana police attempted a stop because of a traffic violation, according to CHP spokesman Salvador Castro.The driver headed south on Interstate 5, then got on southbound I-805 and eventually stopped his silver sedan on the freeway near Orange Avenue.A news video Sunday appeared to depict at least 10 gunshots during the standoff. CHP and San Diego police vehicles could be seen stopped behind the car with some officers drawing their guns. After the shooting, the news video shows a police dog bite down on Ulmer or his clothing before officers turn him over and start first aid.Authorities have not disclosed if Ulmer was armed during the confrontation. CHICANO PARK (KGTV) -- A man was rushed to the hospital after being shot near Chicano Park Friday night, San Diego police said.A caller reported the man shot near Chicano Park on National Avenue and Dewey Street at 9:49 p.m. San Diego Police say officers arrived to find a large group gathered in a parking lot and a silver sedan trying to leave.The group fled, including the occupants of the silver sedan. Officers discovered a 15-year-old Hispanic male in the vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso.Officers started CPR on the teen before first responders arrived to take him to a nearby hospital. The teen died at the hospital, police said.Police say the teen has been identified but his name was not being released.San Diego police said the incident is being investigated as a homicide. (KGTV) — Homeowners in east Chula Vista are hoping a meeting with police and city leaders will address a number of crime concerns in the area.The meeting started with an idea by Josh Roberts. Roberts lives in the community and was tired of seeing people complaining and reporting crime on Facebook instead of directly to the police department. According to Crimemapping, there were 44 crimes reported from July 5 to August 1 in a two mile radius in the 91915 zip code. The crimes range from burglaries to vehicle thefts to assault. REPORT: Chula Vista's rapid growth poses major challenges to public safety, trafficHowever, last December Wallet Hub ranked Chula Vista the safest city in the county and the third safest in the state. CVPD says community safety is their highest priority and plans to address any concerns at the meeting. Chula Vista Police and city councilman Steve Padilla have both confirmed their attendance. (KGTV) -- Police arrested a man suspected in the death of a person after a fight erupted at a party in Chula Vista.According to Chula Vista police, 20-year-old Raymundo Ochoa-Juarez was arrested on suspicion of killing 20-year-old Deandre Bethel after a brawl in the 400 block of East Oxford on the evening of Oct. 30.Ochoa-Juarez was arrested with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals' San Diego Regional Fugitive Task Force.Police did not immediately release details on the case, including the victim's cause of death.A second victim, a 21-year-old, is currently undergoing treatment and is expected to survive, police say.The Chula Vista Police Department is urging anyone with information to contact them or call the San Diego Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at (888)580-8477. 809
