In an apparent effort to clear his name, Harvey Weinstein sent emails to several individuals about the criminal case against him in New York.Representatives for Weinstein confirmed to CNN the authenticity of an email written by the former film producer and published by TMZ on Wednesday.TMZ said it obtained the email from an unnamed source, and that the outlet was not among the recipients of Weinstein's recent emails. It was not clear who the direct recipient was of the email published by TMZ."I've had one hell of a year... the worst nightmare of my life. As you can see from these articles, the police have played a very difficult role in my investigation. All 3 police officers have either been retired, or repositioned from the SVU," Weinstein wrote. "The articles are self explanatory, but I'd like to speak to you on the phone if you have some time. There is more to this story...I appreciate your confidentiality. Have a read of these articles. I wish I didn't have to ask, but I'd be very appreciative of your time. Best, Harvey."CNN was unable to confirm what articles Weinstein referenced in his message.Juda Engelmayer, a publicist for Weinstein's attorney Ben Brafman, told CNN that Weinstein sent six to eight emails to "friends" this week but did not specify who the recipients were."As more information has been coming out that suggests that many of the original narrative were not completely accurate and combined with the difficulty in getting the narrative out, Harvey on his own initiative wrote letters to friends of his," Engelmayer said.Weinstein's goal, Engelmayer added, was to urge the recipients "to take a deeper look into the stories, into the history of it and properly vet what they are hearing and what they've heard."More than 80 women have accused Weinstein of wrongdoing ranging from unwanted advances to rape since The New York Times?and The New Yorker published investigations more than a year ago about Weinstein's alleged sexual misconduct. The producer was charged in May with rape and sex abuse in cases involving three women. In October, one of the six felony charges against Weinstein was thrown out after an NYPD detective was accused of coaching a witness.Weinstein has pleaded not guilty to the charges and has petitioned for the case to be dropped. 2335

If you watch the Republican National Convention this week, you will hear claims from Republicans that Joe Biden, if elected, would hurt suburban living. So what are Republicans talking about? THE POLICYRepublicans are talking about the Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing Rule, which President Barack Obama and Biden updated in 2015. Biden has signaled he'd support even further updating of the rule. The rule basically says that if a town takes federal money, they should examine whether they engage in housing discrimination. Nothing is mandated, but it generally encourages an examination of whether zoning laws encourage developers to build large, family homes as opposed to more affordable options like an apartment or a condo. Trump disagrees with that policy and is against the rule. BATTLE FOR THE SUBURBSThe issue is being brought up by Republicans because for them, the election will be decided by the suburbs. Cities will generally vote for Biden, rural America will vote for Trump. How large suburbs vote will determine who is in the White House. Kim Stewart is an undecided voter living in a suburban community an hour outside of Washington D.C. "I love having the space, having a yard," Stewart said, talking about why she and her husband moved to the suburbs. When asked what she thought of more apartments being built in suburbs like hers, Stewart, admitted she didn't like it. "It would make me feel a little uncomfortable. We enjoy the quiet," Stewart said. THE OTHER SIDEThe Biden campaign says what Trump is saying about Joe Biden and the suburbs is a smear campaign, contending the rule is not "abolishing the suburbs" as Trump has said. There is also another side. Shantai High is a resident in a D.C. low income housing community. She's lived in her apartment for nearly 19 years. She says everyone in a low income housing would like more affordable options, in cities and in suburbs. "It’s tough everywhere. Affordable housing is needed, we are discriminated against," High said. 2014
In advance of hurricane season, Florida Power and Light is reviewing plans to make sure power is restored quickly after a storm. This week the company is holding its annual storm drill, simulating a Category 3 hurricane. During the drill, the company says it is incorporating lessons learned from Hurricane Irma, which knocked out power to 6.7 million electrical customers, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).EIA reports the rate of electric service restoration following Hurricane Irma was faster than Hurricane Wilma in 2005. Five days after Irma’s landfall, the share of customers without power had fallen from a peak of 64 percent down to 18 percent -- a recovery rate of about 9 percent of customers per day.Power outages during Wilma declined from 36 percent of customers to 16 percent by the fifth day after landfall. This is an average recovery rate of about 4 percent of customers per day. FPL credits the improvement to money spent on infrastructure improvements. Since 2006, more than 860 main power lines were hardened; within the next five to seven years FPL wants to harden all of them.Strengthened power lines perform approximately 40 percent better than non-strengthened lines, FPL said. This year, FPL plans to undertake the following additional initiatives to improve the reliabilityof service: 1416
