The Port of San Diego this week approved a 10-year lease with the owners and operators of Carnitas Snack Shack, Broken Yolk, and Little Italy food hall to open a new kind of restaurant at Seaport Village. The new restaurant, which will be on the east end of the property, will have a "Sam the Cooking Guy" concept. Sam Zien, also known as Sam the Cooking Guy, is a celebrity chef who aims to make cooking more down-to-earth, using ingredients that come from the everyday supermarket. The new agreement is the latest in the Port of San Diego's efforts to revitalize the shopping center, which has seen tenant closures and is up for a massive redevelopment. However, that project is still at least five to seven years away. In the last year, the Port has invested more than million to bring new events and freshen up the center - including creating art spaces and a podcasting studio. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A plan to improve bike access along Harbor Drive may put pedestrians at risk.As SANDAG works to promote alternative transportation through its "Keep San Diego Moving" initiative, they plan to upgrade the Bayshore Bikeway. That includes a stretch through Barrio Logan that runs along Harbor Drive from 32nd Street to Park Boulevard.Renderings from SANDAG show a two-way bike lane protected from traffic by concrete or plants. But, plans to build the bike lanes also call for the removal of two pedestrian bridges that go over the intersection of Harbor Drive and 32nd Street. SANDAG will replace the bridges with crosswalks.Navy personnel use the bridges as they go to and from Naval Base San Diego every day. Some people who use the bridge daily say they're worried that it will lead to more accidents and dangerous conditions while trying to cross. Others say it could lead to more people jaywalking along Harbor Drive.SANDAG told 10News that safety is their top concern, and the new crosswalks will "enhance the entire intersection, including adding pedestrian pushbuttons, striped crosswalks, median landings, and other safety features."SANDAG also says they're working with the Navy and other city organizations to make sure the crosswalks are as safe as the bridges. A spokesperson for the Navy was unable to provide a comment about the project.Right now, the project is in the environmental review phase. Construction is expected to begin in the summer of 2020 and wrap up by the end of 2021. 1523

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A measure to implement ranked choice voting in the City of San Diego will be considered for the November ballot. The city's Rules Committee voted 3-2 on Wednesday to send the proposal to a full council vote, where councilmembers will decide if the measure is placed on the 2020 ballot this fall. The vote is expected to take place in July.Ranked choice voting would allow voters to list up to four candidates in order of preference, instead of casting one vote for a single candidate.RELATED: San Diego to consider major change to 'ranked choice' votingHere's how it would work:The top four candidates in each primary race would advance to the general election, instead of just the top two.In November, voters would then rank the candidates by preference. If one candidate has more than 50% of the vote on first count, that candidate would win. If no candidate reaches 50%, the last place finisher would be thrown out. That person's votes would then be reallocated according to the voters' second choice. The field would continue winnowing until a candidate tops 50%.The city would be required to also hold a voter awareness campaign to familiarize voters with the change.Councilmember Mark Kersey, who has led the effort to get the measure on the ballot, said in a release, "ranked Choice Voting increases choice for voters, competition and decreases negativity which is great for campaigns. San Francisco and Oakland are using this system, we are taking their model and improving on it." 1514

Hamilton’s had just started operating outdoors this past weekend due to San Diego County being moved into the state’s restrictive COVID-19 purple tier.According to Blair, the kitchen was their lifeline to stay open. With it completely destroyed they’re unsure where they go from here.“The pandemic has been a nightmare,” Blair told ABC 10News. “It’s gonna take more than this to hang it up. We’ll fight, that’s what we do.”SDFD officials said the fire caused an estimated 0,000 in structural damage and 0,000 in damage to its contents. The cause of the blaze is under investigation. No injuries were reported. 1620
