VALLEY CENTER (CNS) - The first two homebuilders were named Wednesday for a master-planned community to be built on the site of a former dairy farm in Valley Center.Shea Homes and Beazer Homes will construct some of the 632 planned residences in the 186-acre Park Circle being developed by Touchstone Communities, a San Diego-based real estate investment and land development company.Walnut-based Shea Homes has an office in San Diego. Beazer Homes, based out of Atlanta, has built communities in Fallbrook and Oceanside. The Park Circle community will be the core of Valley Center's South Village and has been in the making for seven years. The first model homes are expected to be completed later this year.Details throughout the community will pay homage to the former Konyn Dairy, which operated on the site for nearly 40 years before closing in 2008, according to the developer."Beazer and Shea have proven reputations and family-focused attitudes, which made selecting them an easy choice," said Kerry Garza, president of Touchstone Communities. The overall master plan will feature homes ranging from 1,300 to 3,300 square feet in a variety of architectural styles across eight distinct neighborhoods."We are honored to be part of the exciting new Park Circle community. Our new neighborhood, Summer, will offer 88 cottage-style, detached motor court homes starting from the high 0,000s," said Paul Barnes, president of Shea Homes San Diego. The community will include two private recreation buildings, several parks, a neighborhood retail center and an extensive trail system connecting residents to amenities. 1626

Vanessa Bryant, the widow of basketball Hall of Famer Kobe Bryant, has filed a lawsuit against the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, alleging the department attempted to cover-up up the fact that deputies took photos with their personal cell phones at the scene of a helicopter crash that killed her husband and daughter.Kobe Bryant, his daughter, Gianna, and seven others were killed on Jan. 26 when their helicopter crashed in Calabasas, California, as the group was traveling to a youth basketball game. The helicopter reportedly crashed into mountains amid dense fog.In her lawsuit, Bryant alleges that eight deputies took "gratuitous images" with their cell phones after responding to the scene.Bryant's suit also alleges that one of those deputies showed images from the scene to someone outside the department. According to Yahoo, that deputy showed photos from the scene to a person at a bar and bragged "about how he had been at the crash site." A bartender who overheard the conversation later notified the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department about the conversation.Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva has already admitted that eight deputies took photos of the crash with their cell phones. According to an investigation from The Los Angeles Times, Villanueva allegedly told eight deputies who took photos from the scene that they would not face discipline if they deleted the crash photos from their phone — a move that some legal experts say amounts to the destruction of evidence. After The Times released its report, Villanueva asked the California Office of Inspector General to investigate the situation. However, Bryant's lawsuit alleges that Villanueva did not inform the crash victims' families that improper photographs had been taken. The suit also claims that Villanueva did not initiate an investigation or "inspect the deputies phones to determine whether and how the photos had been shared."According to The Times, Bryant is seeking damages for "negligence, intentional infliction of emotional distress and invasion of her right to privacy."Bryant and the families of other victims in the helicopter crash have also filed a lawsuit against the pilot and his employer, Island Express Helicopters. That suit is still pending. 2273

Two liters of Dr. Pepper costs .80 at a Dollar General store in Union City, NJ. A 10-oz bag of Twizzlers sells for .50. But the low-end retailer is attempting a high-end revamp of its food offerings — adding yogurt, nuts, protein bars, veggie snacks, and coconut water to meet customer demand for healthier choices.Dollar General (DG) has recently added around 125 "better for you" items to its shelves in 2,700 stores. The products appear under Dollar General's Good & Smart house brand, and the store also carries Annie's, Back to Nature, Honest, Nature Valley, and Kashi brands. On Tuesday, Dollar General said the initiative was performing better than it expected, and it has plans to roll out to more stores next year. The chain began offering the products after getting feedback from shoppers who could not find affordable food with low sodium, calorie, fat and sugar levels or without artificial sweeteners, said Dollar General's Chief Merchandising Officer Jason Reiser."These types of healthy food options seemed out of reach," Reiser said.Dollar General's move signals the wider consumer shift to healthier foods is beginning to take hold among low-income shoppers. Dollar General, which sells most of its items for under , serves a wide range of demographics. But its primary customers are value-conscious?and come from low-and-fixed income households."Our core customer is always a little bit behind the curve," Dollar General CEO Todd Vasos said at a conference earlier this year. "Better-for-you is starting to emerge as a trend." 1573
