SEATTLE (AP) — Greyhound, the nation's largest bus company, says it will stop allowing Border Patrol agents without a warrant to board its buses to conduct routine immigration checks. The company announced the change Friday, one week after The Associated Press reported on a leaked Border Patrol memo confirming that agents can't board private buses without the consent of the bus company. Greyhound had previously insisted that even though it didn't like the immigration checks, it had no choice under federal law but to allow them. SEATTLE (KGTV) -- Newly released body camera footage shows the moment police officers nabbed a pair of thieves trying to walk out of a Seattle-area Costco carrying ,200 worth of laptops and vacuums.On March 14, South Precinct officers responded to a call at about 5:30 p.m. of a shoplift in progress at the Costco, police said. Loss Prevention officers inside the store recognized one of the suspects inside and said he had previously stolen items in the past and run out the fire exit. Responding Seattle Police Department officers spotted a female driver inside a black Toyota that was backed up to the store's emergency exit doors.  The officers pulled their patrol vehicle in front of the Toyota to prevent it from leaving and contacted the 18-year-old woman, police said.As police were talking with the woman, they could hear someone attempting to open the doors."Moments later, two suspects, a 30-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman opened the emergency doors and attempted to walk out of the store carrying stolen computers and vacuum cleaners," police said.Officers located a 7″ fixed blade from the male suspect. According to the security personnel, the suspect had carried a large knife in past incidents.The male suspect was later booked into the King County Jail for investigation of robbery, while the two women were booked for investigation of theft, police said. 1428

SARASOTA, Fla. — A Florida woman says she fell ill with COVID-19 and passed the coronavirus onto her 99-year-old mother who lives with her.Ruta Jouniari said she felt sick in October. She had a fever, cough and headache."I literally couldn't breathe. I tried to take a breath and the pain in my lungs was so incredible," she said.Jouniari was hospitalized at Sarasota Memorial Hospital for three days, but did not need oxygen."The nights were horrific, you have night sweats, shivering. You're achy. You can't breathe," she said.Her mother, who Jouniari is the primary caregiver of in her home, later tested positive for COVID-19.Jouniari said her mother never left the house, so she knows she brought the virus home, but she doesn't know where she contracted it.Her mother's age put her at a high risk of contracting the virus. Her mother, she added, suffered from a stroke about seven years ago."The guilt trip that goes with a child giving their parent COVID is not a fun reality of life," she said.Jouniari said her mother was hospitalized for 10 days. She was on a ventilator in an intensive care unit. Doctors treated her mother with plasma, remdesivir and dexamethasone."Going in, it's so frightening and you're so scared and you're scared for yourself when you're the patient, but you're even more scared knowing the statistics of a 99-year-old going in," said Jouniari.Jouniari said her mother left the hospital on Monday."For her to come out and come home today and she's in her own room, her own bed, breathing on two liters of oxygen. It's just amazing," she said.She urges everyone to take precautions and protect the vulnerable population."I hate to say this, but you could kill them. I was witness to that. I could have. My mom is a miracle of miracles. She's a statistic anomaly. She shouldn't have made it and she did," said Jouniari.She said she appreciates everyone who prayed for her mother. She said she is also thankful for the doctors and nurses who cared for her mother."I had over 800 people praying for her and it was incredible...the power of that was just amazing," Jouniari said. "For those families who are suffering, I hope they have solace and peace, just pray hard and have faith just know that people at 99 make it out. SANTEE, Calif (KGTV) - Edgemore Hospital celebrated the 10th Anniversary of its current facility Wednesday, a milestone in a dramatic turnaround from a reputation that almost led to its closure."You had a hospital that as basically built in the 1920's," County Supervisor Dianne Jacob said in an interview with 10News. "You had a hospital that at times had no air conditioning on days where it was 100 degrees...required a lot of maintenance, held together with bubble gum and baling wire, basically.""It was like a rundown hotel with open windows and animals running around," said patient Glenn Higgins, who spent two years in the old facility. "The nurses were scared to go to certain areas because they said there were ghosts from a lot of people dying."Costs of renovation or replacement were so steep, the County Board of Supervisors almost decided to close Edgemoor and not replace it. However, after being on the verge of making that decision, the Board instead relented and approved the 9 million to build the current facility in Santee.Higgins says that while Edgemoor always had a great staff, the new building has made a big difference in the quality of care. "I thank the lord that I'm here, because I know what it's like out there."In a recent article, Newsweek named Edgemoor the best nursing home of its kind in California, and among the best in the nation."If you take good care of the people in the community who are the most vulnerable, that's what's really important in life," Jacob said.
