The larger number of faster and cheaper COVID-19 tests is offering hope.Researchers at Harvard and Brown say we need about 2 million tests a day of symptomatic people and contacts to fight the spread of the virus.When you add in testing for teachers, students, nursing home residents and staff, the number is about 4.4 million.That's around four times the amount of people being tested per day, according to the COVID Tracking Project.“So, I think it's important to make sure we actually have a goal post about where the country needs to head, because the testing manufacturers need to know what that number looks like in order to make their own business and manufacturing decisions about how to scale,” said Dr. Thomas Tsai with the Harvard T.H. The National Rifle Association should move its annual convention from Dallas to somewhere else after last week's massacre at a Florida high school that left 17 students dead, a Dallas city official says.It's not appropriate for the group to meet in Dallas in May because there's so much gun violence in the United States, Dallas City Council Member Dwaine Caraway saidAssault rifles like the one used in the Florida school shooting should be outlawed, he said Monday at a news conference, and "the NRA needs to step up to the plate and they need to show leadership."CNN's calls to the NRA for comment were not immediately returned.Caraway, who is serving as mayor pro tem, meaning he fills in when the mayor is absent, said he's expressing a personal belief about the NRA and has not initiated any action in the city government to stop the convention.At a Monday news conference, Caraway said he had not spoken directly to any NRA officials."I am saying to the NRA, reconsider yourselves coming to Dallas," Caraway said. "There will be marches and demonstrations should they come to Dallas and we, Dallas, will be the ones that have to bear the cost and the responsibility and to protect the citizens."Caraway noted that gun violence has visited Dallas before, with the 1963 assassination of President John F. The National Hurricane Center said it is currently monitoring three storms that could potentially develop into tropical cyclones in the coming days, adding more anxiety to what has already been an extremely active hurricane season.One of the systems, located just off the North Carolina coast, became the 15th tropical depression of the Atlantic hurricane season Monday afternoon. The depression is expected to form into a tropical storm in the coming days, and pass to the north of Bermuda. The potential tropical storm is not expected to affect the United States mainland. The National Weather Service defines a tropical depression as a low-pressure system that is being fueled by warm, tropical water and is rotating around a "well-defined" center. Once these storms have sustained winds of at least 39 mph, they become a "named" tropical storm."Nana" is the name that will be given to the next tropical storm, followed by "Omar" and "Paulette." There have been 13 named storms so far this hurricane season. At this time last year, there had only been five named storms.A second system is brewing in the Caribbean sea.
