CAMPO, Calif. (KGTV) -- A homeowner was injured in a house fire that tore through a home in Campo Thursday afternoon. Cal Fire says the man received burns on his feet and shoulder. The injuries are considered minor. According to Cal Fire, the blaze started around 5 p.m. on the 33000 block of Highway 94. Video from Sky10 shows the home completely engulfed in flames. The fire in rural Campo quickly spread to nearby brush as it burned through the home, leaving nothing by the fireplace standing. Cal Fire says the fire burned less than half an acre. At this time, it’s unclear what started the fire. 609
California has certified its presidential election and appointed 55 electors pledged to vote for Joe Biden, officially handing the Democrat the Electoral College majority needed to win the White House. Secretary of State Alex Padilla’s formal approval of Biden’s victory brought the Democrat’s tally of pledged electors so far to 279, according to a tally by The Associated Press. That’s just over the 270 threshold for victory. These steps are often ignored formalities. But the hidden mechanics of electing a U.S. president have drawn new scrutiny this year as President Donald Trump continues to deny Biden’s victory and pursues specious legal strategies aimed at overturning the results. 699

CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) - The dollar value racked up by the Apple store bandits is now climbing toward the million-dollar mark.Surveillance images from an Apple store in Carlsbad in May show a group of men in hoodies walking in and immediately getting to work."They quickly grab the products on display near the front of the store," said Mark Herrring, coordinator of the San Diego County Crime Stoppers program.Investigators believe the same men hit the same store in June and several times in July."They flee the store, usually to a vehicle that is waiting for them," said Herring. The thieves have apparently shopped around for local targets. Authorities released more images from a similar case at an Apple store at Westfield North County on July 9. Detectives believe the local cases are linked to other grab-and-runs from across the state this year."Currently there are approximately 30 cases throughout the state. The merchandise is valued at about 0,000."In some cases, people have gotten hurt. In a theft in Costa Mesa, the thieves punched and kicked an off-duty police officer trying to stop them before they ran off. Sources tell 10News the thieves hit three stores last Friday night, including one in Temecula. "Most likely an arrest in this case is the only way this stops," said Herring. In one of the cases outside San Diego County, witnesses saw the men take off in a silver Infiniti sedan. CA?ON CITY, Co. -- The Royal Gorge Bridge and Park has been a place providing natural beauty and adrenaline rushing rides for 91 years.“It’s history,” said Chad Harris, who works at the admissions desk. “It’s one of the most iconic places in the United States, and I feel honored to work here.” Harris said the park has been a special part of his life. He was an intern at the park several years ago and then came back to work full-time.“My family worked here, my brother, my sister my mom,” Harris said. “I wanted to come back to this place and have a career here.” But seven years ago, Harris watched decades of memories go up in flames. The Royal Gorge Bridge and Park was destroyed by a wildfire. The bridge was nearly all that was left. The heartbreak of the fire—only preparing Harris and his team for the challenges that COVID-19 would bring.“I honestly thought the fire was the worst thing that could happen to us,” said Peggy Gair, who manages public relations for the park.Gair has been with the park for more than 20 years and said the virus was a new strain of devastation.“Never in my wildest dreams did I think we’d be closed for that many weeks, the two and a half months that we were,” Gair said. She said the fire was different—the park had insurance and was prepared to rebuild. No one could have prepared them for the pandemic.Just before the pandemic hit, employees spent dozens of hours and thousands of dollars hiring 30 new employees. Days later, they had to let everyone go, and now, the process to rehire is more complicated than ever before.Gair is signed up for a new way to find workers: a live, virtual job fair. She’s hoping to fill dozens of open positions around the park. Some of those jobs have been available since last year, and now, Gair believes the extra 0 a week in unemployment benefits is playing a role in keeping people from applying.“There’s jobs available,” Gair said. “People aren’t excited to go back to work. They want to wait.” Gair is hoping that after July 31, more people will come to her park looking for work.Despite the struggle, Gair said she looks at the park today like she did in 2013—as a beacon of hope. As long as this park stands, the people will follow.“We just have to tighten the belt, pull ourselves up by the bootstraps and keep going forward,” said Harris. If you'd like to work at Royal Gorge Bridge and Park, you can find information here. 2420
Canadian health officials’ approval of the NHL’s return-to-play proposal has led the league to consider designating one or more cities north of the border to serve as hubs for its 24-team playoff format. NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly wrote in an email to The Associated Press on Friday that the approval followed productive discussions with government health officials. The approval comes as the NHL has entered the advanced stages of selecting its hub cities, which include three located in Canada. The NHL, however, encountered a setback as the Tampa Bay Lightning closed their training facilities after three players and some staff members tested positive for COVID-19.The NHL is currently in Phase 2 of its return-to-play program, which allows for small, voluntary group workouts.Only six players are allowed on the ice at a time, and only non-contact drills are allowed.Players are required to report to training camps on July 10 before the NHL begins its expanded 24-team postseason. 1001
