In addition, indoor stadiums in Las Vegas and Phoenix also use grass surfaces."Agronomically, natural grass field surfaces are possible everywhere," Tretter said.As of 2020, 17 of 31 NFL stadiums use traditional grass.Tretter's letter comes weeks after the NFL was forced to inspect the artificial turf at MetLife Stadium — home of the Jets and Giants — after several high-profile players were injured in the surface in the opening weeks of the season. Among those hurt during weeks 2 and 3 of the season were 49ers players George Kittle Nick Bosa, Jimmy Garoppolo and Raheem Mostert.In 2015, Houston's NRG Stadium switched from natural grass to an artificial surface after more than a decade amid player criticism over injury concerns. Due to its retractable roof, groundskeepers grew grass in trays outdoors and then brought the trays indoors and assembled them together with forklifts to form the playing surface. (AP) — A 30th horse has died at Santa Anita on the last weekend of racing before the Southern California track closes for the season.Mike Marten, a spokesman for the California Horse Racing Board, says a 4-year-old gelding named American Currency was injured Saturday while exercising on the training track and was euthanized.The board had recommended that Santa Anita suspend the current meet following a string of deaths since Dec. 26, but management chose to continue until the last day of the meet on Sunday.Track owner, The Stronach Group, formed a panel to review horses' medical, training and racing history for the final six racing days.But Marten says American Currency wasn't entered to run in any race and thus wasn't subject to review by the panel.The horse is the fourth from the stable of Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer to die at the track. Hollendorfer was banned from Santa Anita following the latest death.The Stronch Group said in a statement that Hollendorfer "is no longer welcome to stable, race or train his horses at any of our facilities."On the recommendation of the special panel, the track's stewards scratched four horses trained by Hollendorfer that were to run Saturday and Sunday. 1244

An Arizona resident captured a dangerous encounter between a bobcat and rattlesnake earlier this week. The video taken by Laura Lucky in Scottsdale shows the pair facing off along a sidewalk. The bobcat paws and bites at the snake as it tries to slither away and, at times, strike back. As Christmas approaches, Target is extending its store hours for holiday shoppers.On its website in its FAQ section, Target said most of its stores would open at 7 a.m. and close at 11 p.m. leading up to the holiday.But on Christmas Eve, stores will close at 8 p.m. Target is closed on Christmas Day.The retail store says hours can vary, so check the store locator before you head out.The company also announced that special hours for seniors and at-risk shoppers have also changed.According to Target, stores will open an hour early, but only on Tuesdays.
