BEIJING, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- China's national political advisors Thursday offered suggestions on the national development plan for 2011 to 2015, at a meeting of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in Beijing.Jia Qinglin, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, the top political advisory body, attended the meeting.At the gathering, 15 CPPCC members made speeches in which they advised the government on issues such as improving education, adjusting income distribution, developing the western regions, enhancing China's innovative abilities and public welfare.The Communist Party of China Central Committee outlined the key objectives of the 12th five-year development plan in a four-day meeting that ended on Monday.The plan will be drawn up by the State Council, or the Cabinet. WENZHOU, Zhejiang, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- At least 246 tourists remain stranded on an island in east China's Zhejiang Province Tuesday as tropical storms and a typhoon cut off ship ferrying services Monday, local authorities said.The tourists, including six Russians and 26 students, have to stay in hotels in Nanji Island, a popular tourist destination in Wenzhou City of Zhejiang, after local transport authorities suspended ship services Monday due to strong gales triggered by two approaching tropical storms and typhoon Kompasu.Officials have said that room charges have been cut by up to 86 percent, to 40 yuan (5.9 U.S. dollars) per day, for the tourists. Also, local government workers are trying to help the Russians solve visa problems and book new flight tickets.Ship routes are expected to reopen after the wind weakens.

NEW YORK, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said on Wednesday that China and the United States should positively carry out a large-scale economic and trade cooperation.When meeting celebrities from the U.S. economic and financial community, Wen said political and strategic mutual trust should be the precondition of such cooperation.Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 31 years ago, China and the United States have developed a lot more common interests than differences. The two countries have strengthened strategic mutual trust, widened the basis for cooperation and deepened interdependence, Wen said.He said a sound and stable Sino-U.S. economic and trade relationship is in line with the fundamental interests of both countries.The total trade volume was 2.5 billion U.S. dollars when diplomatic ties were forged in 1979, while the figure has surged to over 350 billion dollars at present, Wen said, adding that it signified the bilateral economic and trade relationship has kept a sound momentum.China became the third biggest market for U.S. exports in 2009.
