LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities say an off-duty Los Angeles County deputy was shot early Sunday morning while he was driving and returned fire at the suspect. LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Authorities say they have arrested a man in connection with the shooting of two Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies as they sat in their squad car.District Attorney Jackie Lacy on Wednesday says attempted murder charges have been filed against 36-year-old Deonte Lee Murray. He was arrested two weeks ago in connection with a separate carjacking.The deputies suffered critical wounds in the Sept. 12 shooting which was recorded by surveillance video.They have since been released from the hospital and are recovering at home. 555

Logan Stiner was just 18 years old when he died in 2014 — only three days short of graduating from Keystone High School in Lagrange, Ohio. The cause of death: a lethal amount of caffeine in his system.Stiner, who was a wrestler, had taken powdered caffeine often used as a pre-workout boost. LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The Westfield Century City mall was evacuated Friday as police, firefighters and a bomb squad responded to a report of a manwith a gun and a fire inside a bookstore.Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to the facility in the 10000 block of Santa Monica Boulevard at about 12:45 p.m., according to department spokesman Sgt. Barry Montgomery.When they arrived, people were streaming from the mall and they set about trying to locate the suspect, Montgomery said.A security guard informed officers he hadn't heard any gunshots or located any victims, according to the sergeant.``While proceeding with their search, officers were directed to a suspicious package located inside the Amazon store,'' he said. ``In an abundance of caution (an) LAPD bomb squad and (the) Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene.''At about 2 p.m., smoke was seen coming from the roof of the Amazon store.
