VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A 17-year-old boy was arrested in Vista Thursday on suspicion of making terrorist threats against a north San Diego County campus, Oceanside Police said Friday. The Mission Vista High School student allegedly made the threat on Snapchat, posting “Don’t go to school tomorrow because the cleansing will commence,” according to investigators. Other students saw the post and reported it to school officials, who contacted police. The Vista Unified School District sent an automated message to parents to notify them about the threat. "In this situation the systems we have in place worked. A student saw something and said something. Please take this opportunity to speak with your child about school safety, and encourage them to be vigilant and to report any suspicious behavior or information they may have that jeopardizes their safety and that of others," said Lisa Contreras, VUSD Director of Communications.Contreras told 10News that the alleged threat did not target a specific campus or individual. Visitors to the Bahamas will no longer have to quarantine for 14 days after the island updated its coronavirus rules over the weekend.On Sunday, the island stated in a press release that anyone who visits must test negative for COVID-19 five days before arriving on the island, apply for a health travel visa, complete a daily questionnaire, and take a rapid antigen test the fifth day of your stay.The antigen test is not required if you are leaving on the fifth day.And you're required to wear a mask and social distance in public places.Beginning Nov. 14, visitors must opt into COVID-19 health insurance when applying for the health travel visas."The cost of the required COVID Health Insurance is included in the Bahamas Health Visa and paid in advance of travel," island officials stated on its FAQ.The island said anyone who presents a test older than five days would not be allowed entry.Prior to the rules change on Sunday, visitors had to quarantine for 14 days upon their arrival as part of its vacation-in-place. 1032

(KGTV) -- The Vista Unified School District confirmed that a student at one of its high schools tested positive for COVID-19.According to the district, a positive case in a student was reported at Mission Vista High School on Tuesday, resulting in about 130 students in the four classes the positive student attended to be placed into a 14-day quarantine. Those students will pivot to virtual learning.Staff members involved in these classes or who may have come into contact with the student were also quarantined, the district said."The student did not come into close contact with every student; however, since this is our first incident, we are proceeding with an abundance of caution," a district release stated.District officials said schools will reopen at normal capacity on Friday.The positive test comes just two days after Vista Unified reopened its schools for in-person instruction.Part of the reopening plan, known as “Vista Classic,” includes attempts to have social distancing as much as possible. The district will allow as many as 38 students in a single classroom, so desks will not be spaced six feet apart.According to the district dashboard, prior to the full reopening, there were four confirmed positive COVID-19 cases at schools between Sept. 8-Oct. 19. 1300

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is dismissing the latest White House offer in COVID-19 aid talks as “one step forward, two steps back.” However, the California Democrat said in a letter that she's still hopeful that progress can be made toward a deal.The White House had boosted its offer before Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Pelosi spoke on Friday afternoon, but the speaker says she wants to agree on specific language about what the money will go towards.“When the President talks about wanting a bigger relief package, his proposal appears to mean that he wants more money at his discretion to grant or withhold, rather than agreeing on language prescribing how we honor our workers, crush the virus and put money in the pockets of workers,” said Pelosi.President Donald Trump is eager for an agreement before Election Day, even as his most powerful GOP ally in the Senate says Congress is unlikely to deliver relief by then.Pelosi tells colleagues in the letter that while the administration tried to address some Democratic concerns, disagreement remained on many priorities.“A key concern is the absence of any response on a strategic plan to crush the virus,” said Pelosi. “We cannot safely reopen schools, the economy and our communities until we crush the virus with the science-based, national plan for testing, tracing, treatment and isolation, and for the equitable and ethical distribution of a safe and effective vaccine once developed. (KGTV) - A six-year-old Vista boy said he was approached by an unknown man in a car Monday night who asked him if he wanted pizza.Erika Bristow said her son was playing on their driveway when the man drove up and tried to get the boy’s attention.“He definitely realized immediately it wasn’t a safe situation,” Bristow said of her son, who ran inside to tell them about it.Her son has special needs and is normally very friendly, according to Bristow. So over the past year, she and her husband have been reinforcing the “stranger danger” lesson. Earlier this week they said the topic was even addressed during their son’s karate class.After his son told them about what happened, Craig Bristow said he ran out to the driveway to look for the car. He said he saw it up the street parked behind some trees before the driver sped back down the road.He said he caught a look at the car and the driver but was too distracted to take down the license plate.“All those thoughts are coming through your mind. It’s like a parent's worst nightmare,” he said.They called the sheriff’s Ddepartment, which sent out patrols, but they could not locate the car. The Bristows described the vehicle as a new, white Honda Civic hatchback with roof racks and a sunroof.The family said they did not get any pictures of the car and so far have not heard from any of their neighbors if the car was captured on surveillance cameras.Erika Bristow said the incident has shattered her sense of safety on their winding, quiet street in Vista.“One hour I’ll just cry.
