SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Metropolitan Transit System has launched an initiative to keep their buses and trolleys clean and their riders and employees safe.MTS officials said their ridership has dropped 75 percent since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. Now, with officials are seeing a recent uptick in riders, the agency is implementing new health and safety measures.Nikki Jefferson has relied on the trolley to get to work for the last three years. When the cases of COVID-19 started popping up around San Diego County, she was nervous about getting back on board.“I still use hand sanitizer after my last stop, anytime I touch the button,” Jefferson said.To help control the spread of COVID-19, the MTS is now cleaning their 800 buses and 135 trolley cars twice a day. MTS is even using the deep-cleaning fogging technique to disinfect high-touch areas.Additionally, hand-washing stations are installed at their 54 transit stops and plexiglass barriers protect bus drivers from passengers.When on a bus or trolley, passengers are urged to practice social distancing whenever possible.Officials said all riders on buses or trolleys, and riders at stops or stations, will be required to wear face masks or coverings.MTS CEO Sharon Cooney said, “We’re going to educate all of our customers so that they know you can’t come on board without as mask for some kind of face covering.”It’s a move Jefferson agrees with as she spends most of her time riding the trolley.“It makes me feel safer and less of a chance that I’m going to catch COVID-19, since I have to go to work, but I don’t want to bring it to work with me or have it around me,” said Jefferson.MTS officials said they will educate the public about the face coverings. Some staff will also have face coverings on hand. But they add if someone refuses to wear one, they’ll look into issuing a citation.So far, 33 MTS employees have tested positive for the coronavirus; 22 have recovered and have returned to work. 1984

According to a spokesperson for the district, officials were recently alerted about the page’s existence, which reportedly rates the studnts based on certain features. Based on information shared with 10News, the posts rate young girls on looks and personality, among other categories. A parent within the district also posted in a Rancho San Diego neighborhood watch group on Facebook about the page. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Students said they've seen a steady decline at San Diego State University tailgates over the past three years.At their Homecoming tailgate Saturday some students were nervous to celebrate after learning a Freshman was gravely injured after a night of drinking."We definitely want to respect the family and respect the kid, and everyone who has been impacted by this because obviously this is something super severe," SDSU Senior Emma Marchant said.The parking lot was dotted with tailgaters, consisting mostly of alumni, a vast difference compared to the throngs of partiers in September 2018's home opener."Freshman year this whole area would just be covered with people and now it's kinda just us," Marchant said."Mainly undergraduates haven't been here," UCSD Alumna Teigan MacDonald said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Surveillance video captures in "disturbing" peeper outside a home in Old Town, as a teenage girl slept inside.Steve rents a home along Jefferson Street. Around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, he was close by with some friends when he got an alert on his phone."Just a feeling of alarm," said Steve.A stunned Steve saw video of a man outside his home, just staring. The cameras capture an older, balding man on the side of the home. His left hand is in his pants, as he peers into the windows."Behavior was really creepy," said Steve.Steve called police and raced home. His 15-year-old daughter was inside, asleep on the couch. In the video, the man keeps looking inside, though all the blinds are closed. His hand is still where it is."My immediate concern is that the guy is going to break a window or climb in the house," said Steve.After peering in the windows, he goes around the back and out of camera range. When he reappears, he decides to smoke before taking yet another look."He was so comfortable in my space looking in my windows and doing what he may have been doing," said Steve.Not long after, police arrive and take him into custody. The video shows he had been outside the home for some 30 minutes. Police say there was not enough evidence a crime had been committed and the man was released after an hour. Steve is still hoping to get the word out on the stranger and the odd behavior he fears could escalate."Probably has done it before and will do it again. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Students spent Friday gathering their belongings and saying goodbye to their peers at the Art Institute of San Diego.The school's operator, the for-profit Argosy University, shut down the campus after court documents alleged it misused millions of dollars in federal funds. The move left many students angry and wondering what's next. "I feel so empty," said Marjan Razavi, about six months from graduating and ,000 in debt. "I lose my job and my education at the same time."The Institute's closure is the latest for-profit run school to abruptly shut down in San Diego. In 2018, Brightwood College closed its doors. In 2016, the giant I.T.T. Technical Institute shuttered. Derek Abbey runs the Veterans Center at San Diego State University, a population he says the for-profits target because of their education benefits. Abbey said the schools often make grand job promises, but charge higher tuition than public universities (a federal study showed double), but spend a lot of that money on advertising. "They're getting out in front of the populations that they expect are going to come to their school, and often times those are under represented populations that don't know the higher education systems," Abbey said. Abbey teaches the alternative options like attending community college and transferring to a public university - many now offering the convenience of online classes. About twenty colleges participated in a transfer fair at the art institute building Friday. Students also can request loan forgiveness, however that would involve canceling some, or all, of the credits they've earned so far.
