LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities say Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana and his wife confronted a home intruder who attempted to kidnap their grandchild over the weekend in California.According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Montana told deputies that his 9-month-old grandchild was sleeping in a playpen Saturday when an unknown woman entered their home in Malibu and grabbed the child.Montana and his wife, Jennifer, confronted the woman and asked her to give back their grandchild.After a tussle, law enforcement officials say Jennifer Montana pried the baby out of the woman's arms.The sheriff’s office says the woman, whom authorities identified as Sodsai Dalzell, fled the home but was later arrested. LONDON (AP) — Ireland’s Supreme Court has ruled that bread sold by the fast food chain Subway contains so much sugar that it cannot be legally defined as bread. The ruling came in a tax dispute brought by Bookfinders Ltd., an Irish Subway franchisee. The company argued that some of its takeaway products including including teas, coffees, and heated sandwiches, were not liable for value-added tax. A panel of judges rejected the appeal Tuesday, ruling that the bread sold by Subway contains too much sugar to be categorized as a “staple food,” which is not taxed. They said that the bread in Subway's heated sandwiches has a sugar content of 10% of the weight of the flour included in the dough, exceeding the 2% specified in the law.The law makes a distinction between “bread as a staple food” and other baked goods “which are, or approach, confectionery or fancy baked goods,” the judgement said.Bookfinders was appealing a 2006 decision by authorities who refused to refund value-added tax payments. A third installment of the “Sister Act” franchise is officially in the works.Disney confirmed Thursday evening that “Sister Act 3” is in development, with Whoopi Goldberg set to reprise her role as Deloris Van Cartier.The entertainment company said the film will premiere on Disney+, but didn’t provide a target release date.Along with starring in the film, “The View” co-host will produce it as well, alongside Tyler Perry. The two have worked together before, most recently in 2018’s "Nobody’s Fool” with Tiffany Haddish.Goldberg has been trying to get “Sister Act 3” made for some time now. In 2018, she and Perry actually suggested working together on it with Haddish during an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live.”"The two of them in 'Sister Act,' that should happen. LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Achieving a feat that a human being might even find difficult, a mountain lion successfully managed to cross the San Diego (405) Freeway in the Sepulveda Pass, National Park Service officials announced Thursday. Researchers believe the lion known as P-61 managed to traverse the freeway from west to east between 2 and 4 a.m. July 19. According to the NPS, another lion named P-18 was fatally struck by a vehicle in the same area of freeway while attempting a crossing in 2011, and another lion that was not being tracked by researchers was struck and killed in 2009. The only other lion known to have crossed the 405 Freeway is Griffith Park's famed resident lion P-22. That lion was not being tracked with a GPS collar at the time, so little is known about where and when he made the trek. Researchers say DNA testing shows P-22 was born in the Santa Monica Mountains, so he must have crossed both the 405 and 101 Freeways to have reached Griffith Park. ``Although P-61 successfully crossed the 405, his feat is a reminder of how challenging Southern California's road network is for mountain lions and other wildlife as well,'' said Jeff Sikich, a biologist with the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. ``Others haven't been so lucky.'' The issue of extensive development and freeways acting as physical barriers to migration have long been identified as threats to the continued survival of mountain lions in the area. At least one study has suggested that the lions will be extinct within 50 years due to the lack of breeding partners, leading to rampant inbreeding among the current population. P-61 now inhabits an area between the 405 and 101 Freeways, where researchers say at least one other lion resides. That lion is not outfitted with a GPS collar and has only been seen on surveillance footage in the area over the past five years. ``It will be interesting to see if P-61 stays in the area, whether he decides to challenge the uncollared lion or if he heads back to the other side of the freeway,'' Sikich said. ``Although it's a relatively small area of habitat, it's certainly larger than the Griffith Park area and does have a patchwork of natural areas.'' P-61 is believed to be about 4 years old. The lion was first captured and fitted with a GPS collar in October 2017. 2330

Police responded to the 4200 block of Bronson Avenue after reports of a small FedEx package on a front porch.Shortly after 9 p.m. LAPD cleared the scene, saying no device was found in the envelope.    452
