SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Days after pleading guilty to misusing campaign funds, Congressman Duncan Hunter has announced he will resign from Congress.Hunter, who represented the 50th District, pleaded guilty Tuesday to a federal charge of conspiracy to misuse campaign funds for personal use. Though after the plea, it wasn't clear if the embattled Congressman would resign.“Shortly after the Holidays I will resign from Congress. It has been an honor to serve the people of California’s 50th District, and I greatly appreciate the trust they have put in me over these last 11 years," Rep. Newsom can also still choose to proceed with a special election or consolidate the special election with a regularly scheduled election, such as the March 2020 Primary.Under California law, Newsom has 14 calendar days after a vacancy occurs to call for a special election, which must then be held within 140 days. A spokesperson for Sweetwater Union High School District confirms the investigations, saying the teachers are not allowed on campus at the current time.10News uncovered the investigations when a viewer reported that his daughter had been interviewed in the case. He says an assistant principal questioned her about one teacher's behavior, including conduct that could be considered sexually inappropriate.The father, who asked 10News not to use his name, says he's upset that he was not notified by the school before his daughter was brought in for questioning. "I would have preferred my wife to be there, or I could have had the chance to say no, I don't want her interviewed because these are very serious, morbid conversations to have with 12-year-old girls," the father said.He says the only communication he has had from the school is a robocall voicemail the day after the questioning to notify him that it had occurred and suggesting he ask his student about the topics discussed.A district spokesperson says they are limited in what information can be released by privacy and personnel issues. 1233

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Arthur Soriano didn't have that privilege until the age of 40, and now advocates about the power of voting.Seven years ago, Soriano was released from prison after serving a 19-year sentence for attempted murder."I needed that sense of belonging and I found it in gangs," Soriano said.He grew up in City Heights, with a single mother, and two younger twin sisters. He'd been in and out of trouble since he was a teenager. And of course, lost his opportunity to vote. But he turned his life around in prison."I went to college while I was in there so I self-educated while I was in prison. There was always aspirations of me wanting something better," says Soriano.That something better was a grassroots community organization he created in City Heights called Youth Empowerment. Soriano now helps to provide services for formerly incarcerated men and women.And four years ago at the age of 40, after serving his probation, Soriano voted for the first time."It was exciting, it was new, a new experience. But I felt the power of using my voice, of having that platform of my voice counts," Soriano said of voting in 2016.Now, with the opportunity to have a direct influence on others in his community, Soriano also shares his message about the privilege of voting, and the power it can have."I have a place at the table, I have a voice, I have something I can bring. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Authorities are resuming their search Thursday morning for actress Naya Rivera who disappeared while boating on Lake Piru with her young son.The Ventura County Sheriff's Department tweeted that Rivera may have drowned. Later Thursday, authorities began a recovery effort, saying they believed Rivera had drowned.The 33-year-old actress rented a boat at the lake with her 4-year-old son Wednesday afternoon, authorities told media. Staff at the lake found the overdue rental with her child on board but could not find Rivera.Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Cpt. Eric Buschow told the Los Angeles Times that the boy and Rivera got out of the boat for a swim but she did not follow him back onto the boat. The boy was found sleeping on the boat alone by other boaters in the lake, Buschow said.Buschow said Rivera's son is safe with family members.Rivera, from Santa Clarita, earned stardom after her breakthrough role as cheerleader Santana Lopez on the television musical "Glee." SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Border Patrol agents arrested a man after finding more than million worth of narcotics inside his car.According to the agency, the incident began around 4 a.m. on October 4 when the 21-year-old man, a US citizen, entered the I-8 checkpoint.As agents questioned the man, a K-9 alerted authorities to the vehicle.After searching the car, agents found 36 wrapped packages under the driver’s side front tire.The brick-shaped packages were later found to contain 84 pounds of cocaine and four pounds of fentanyl pills.“Criminal organizations go to great lengths to conceal and smuggle dangerous narcotics in order to make millions of dollars. This is done without regard to the health and safety of our communities.
