FLINT, Mich. – The City of Flint will no longer auction off illegal guns seized by its police department. Instead, the weapons will be destroyed.Mayor Sheldon Neeley and Police Chief Phil Hart made the announcement during a press conference last week, saying they hope to keep guns off the streets.Officials say they will start by immediately disposing of 250 guns that previously had been on Flint streets.According to a press release from the city, the previous administration began auctioning off seized firearms in 2017, selling hundreds of guns to the highest bidder. It is unconscionable that after seizing these illegal weapons that anyone would gamble by putting them back on the streets where they could again fall into the wrong hands.”Chief Hart says the profit from selling the firearms is not worth the risk of them being used in future violent events.“If we want to look at dollars and cents, we also have to look at the cost of gun violence in our community,” said Hart. “It does not make sense for law enforcement to be in the business of selling weapons.”The city cited a 2019 report from the Congressional Joint Economic Committee, which said gun violence costs the U.S. 9 billion annually and in Michigan, gun violence costs .9 billion — 6 for every resident.“Based on that average, the cost of gun violence in the city of Flint is at least triple the revenues the gun auctions,” the city wrote.Instead of auctioning off the guns, the weapons will be turned over to the Michigan State Police for proper disposal. 2205

They’ve been married for 43 years and ran several businesses together. Then in 2016, things started to change. Gina didn’t notice anything but employees at the family's businesses did.“I wasn't remembering some of the stuff I was supposed to be doing,” said Gina.Gina was diagnosed with early Alzheimer's disease that year.“They said, 'well you can come back in a year. We will check and see how you're doing, or we have a drug trial if you're interested,'” said Gina.Gina and Steve spent the next two and a half years at the Mayo Clinic, where Gina eventually got high doses of the drug aducanumab.Steve started to notice Gina was remembering more things and reported it back to doctors.“He just smiled and said, 'let me tell you what we're seeing. We're seeing cognitive improvement. And it’s the first time in my career.' These doctors said in their career that we've ever seen it,” said Steve.“He was so excited,” said Gina.Then in 2019, the drug trial suddenly ended. Gina says she felt like she’s gone downhill a little since it did.Rebecca Edelmeyer, PhD, with the Alzheimer’s Association, says the trial stopped early based on a futility analysis.“It was a statistical analysis that was done by the Biogen team, predicting that the trial would not actually be successful,” said Edelmeyer.Edelmeyer says then upon a second look at the trial data, they found that those people on the highest dose of the drug were seeing improvement in their brain function. She called it a very important moment for the Alzheimer’s research community.Now, the government will determine whether or not the drug is safe and effective enough to use.Steve mentioned there were some possible side effects like bleeding of the brain, but Gina did not experience any.Meanwhile, Gina can no longer take the drug. FREDERICK, Colorado — The bodies whom police have “strong reason to believe” are 4-year-old Bella and 3-year-old Celeste Watts were located during the late afternoon hours Thursday, Frederick, Colo. police announced Thursday evening.Police said they will not disclose the location of where the bodies were recovered, but said they were located in close proximity to the other body whom officers strongly believe is Shanann Watts.
