SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency announced Tuesday that it will make its inclement weather shelter program available to homeless residents in the county's unincorporated areas. The agency's Housing and Community Development Services division activates the shelter when rain is expected for at least two days, reaches two inches in a 24-hour period or when a storm includes a threat of flash flooding. County officials monitor seven unincorporated zones to determine when to activate the shelter program. Homeless residents can contact 211 San Diego between noon and 7 p.m. to be connected to a shelter provider. In some cases, residents are eligible to receive assistance with transportation to an inclement weather shelter. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The California Highway Patrol is reporting no fatalities and 26 drunk driving arrests in San Diego County for the Labor Day weekend period of 6 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Sunday.Last year for the same period, there were 40 DUI arrests and no fatalities in the county, according to the CHP.Across California, the CHP reported 551 DUI arrests and 18 fatalities for the same period. Last year, they reported 717 DUI arrests and 11 fatalities.The DUI arrests are only those made by CHP officers, while fatality statistics are for all law enforcement agencies.Statewide, 13 vehicle occupants were killed in CHP jurisdiction, six without safety belts. When it was being built in 2013, opponents of the apartment complex argued that it more closely resembled a dormitory rather than the luxury units it was billed as.``I applaud my council colleagues for correcting these corrupt mistakes of the past, and moving forward from Filner's blatant misuse of power,'' Sherman said. ``This is a good reminder that big problems happen when elected officials abuse the power of their office.''Carmel Partners began work on the CentrePoint apartment complex, located in Rolando, in 2013.
