Days after a dad was caught on camera being shot as he shielded his children from gunfire at Bronx car dealership, a family friend says he has lost his job.An innocent bystander, 39-year-old Anthony Jefferson was struck in the right thigh when the shooting erupted Monday, officials said.On a GoFundMe campaign page started Thursday by close friend Serena Wingate, she wrote that Jefferson had lost his job due to the injury and also has to have surgery to remove the bullet.Jefferson's wife, Danica Jefferson, told TMZ that the injury left him temporarily unable to walk. This has resulted in the heroic dad being fired from both of his two jobs as a construction worker and head painter at a maintenance company, TMZ reported.Wingate said she set up the GoFundMe to help the dad with medical bills and help his kids with therapy after the traumatic experience.According the family friend, the father and his three kids were at the dealership shopping for a new vehicle to surprise his wife for her birthday. That's when shots rang out inside the Boston Road business. Three men opened fire on another man, who fired several rounds back, police said.Surveillance video shows the dad diving and huddling over the kids on the floor behind a couch. Governor Andrew Cuomo announced on Monday the state's formula that will determine which school districts can reopen to students in September. The formula will be implemented between August 1 and August 7, based on COVID-19 data in each region. Schools in regions in Phase Four of their reopening at that time will be able to reopen to students if the region's daily infection rate remains 5% or lower over a 14-day average. After August 1, schools will close if their regional infection rate is greater than 9% over a seven-day average.Once reopening, schools must follow guidelines specific to their districts. The New York State Health Department has released its own guidelines, which will be used by districts to develop plans. The health department's guidelines include masks and PPE whenever students or staff cannot maintain social distancing (six feet of separation). It also includes guidelines on cleaning, screening, tracing, transportation and food service. You can read the guidelines here: Recovering, rebuilding, and renewing the spirit of our schools school reopening guidance from Adam Francis WKBW's Megan Erbacher first reported this story. 1182

New NYPD training videos released Wednesday clearly show officers what they can and cannot do when taking a suspect into custody,But sometimes that training does not translate in real life. There's already there’s a law on the books banning officers from putting people in chokeholds, but the city council wants to take things a step further, banning officers from applying pressure or restricting a suspect's diaphragm.“It’s tough right now to be a police officer," said NYPD Chief of Department Terence Monahan. "You have to worry that if a suspect shot at you and you put a knee on his back, that now you become the criminal.”Monahan said these new rules have his officers fighting crime with their hands tied behind their backs. Those in favor say that officers are merely being given a script telling them how to behave in a critical incident. However, there are still those that argue that the city council does not have expertise in police tactics.Even so, the NYPD argues every encounter is different and a blanket law is not the answer. Martha Firestone Ford is stepping down as the owner of the Detroit Lions, the team announced on Tuesday. Her daughter, Sheila Ford Hamp, will succeed her mother as the team's principal owner and chair.Martha, who is 94, has owned the team for six years."It has been a great honor for our family to be association with the Lions and with the National Football League. I am gratified that this family tradition, which my husband and I began almost six decades ago, will continue under Sheila's guiding hand. It is clear to me that Sheila will provide superb leadership and is fully committed to competitive excellence and community involvement," Martha said in a statement."My mother has inspired all of us since taking on the leadership of the Lions over six years ago. She has been a tireless leader to our family, our team, and our community. Her smart decisions have given me a solid foundation to take the team forward. On behalf of the family and the team, I want to thank her for her countless contributions. I look forward to leading the Lions to excellence on and off the field," Sheila said in a statement. When she took over for the team after her husband, William Clay Ford died, she became a fixture at practices and at games.“I’m so impressed by the way that she handles things, runs the team, is involved. She was out at practice last week, it was 90-some degrees, stood out there the whole practice. I mean, she might be in better shape than some of the players,” New England Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick said during the NFL Films interview. He was speaking of a joint practice between the Patriots and Lions in the summer of 2019.“We have meetings, two or three times a week during the season. We’re at training camp together so we can talk about players that we see. It’s just such a big part of my life, I don’t know where it begins or ends,” she said in an NFL Films clip. “I don’t pretend to be an expert on coaching, but I know enough to be on top of what’s going on.”Ford was one of ten female owners in the NFL.
