SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 28-year-old man was behind bars Friday on suspicion of stabbing his girlfriend multiple times inside a Colina Del Sol apartment, police said.Dispatchers received multiple calls shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday from neighbors who reported hearing screaming coming from one of the apartments in a complex on 49th Street just south of El Cajon Boulevard, San Diego police Officer Tony Martinez said.Officers responding to the scene found that a woman had been stabbed multiple times and the suspect had fled, Martinez said.The victim, whose age was not immediately available, was taken to a hospital for treatment of her wounds, which were not believed to be life- threatening, the officer said.Around 10:35 p.m. Thursday, the suspect apparently called 911 and told a dispatcher his location, and that he was going to surrender, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.The 28-year-old man, whose name was not immediately available, was taken into custody around 10:45 p.m. on El Cajon Boulevard near El Cerrito Drive, Martinez said. 1053

Sam Clovis, President Donald Trump's nominee to be the Department of Agriculture's chief scientist, withdrew himself from consideration Thursday, the White House announced."We respect Mr. Clovis' decision to withdraw his nomination," White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said in a statement to pool reporters.Sources told CNN earlier Thursday that Clovis' nomination was imperiled over his connections to the ongoing Russia probe. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 22-year-old man was wounded in a shooting outside an El Cerrito smoke shop, police said Monday.The shooting happened shortly before 5:30 p.m. Sunday outside Aztec Smoke Shop, in a strip mall near the corner of 60th Street and El Cajon Boulevard, San Diego police Officer John Buttle said.The victim, a 22-year-old man, was confronted by two men as he was getting into his car after exiting the smoke shop, Buttle said.The two men shot the victim four times, then fled the scene eastbound on El Cajon Boulevard in a gray VW Jetta, the officer said.The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds to his chest and leg, Buttle said, adding that the injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.Both suspects were described as 5-foot-11 Black men in their early 20s with thin builds. But the garage has also become a source of frustration among them - and in some cases, much worse. Numerous city employees told 10News that the elevators often breakdown, especially when it rains. That forces some of them to walk up 10 flights of stairs after a day's work - instead of waiting longer for the elevators that are working.But a notice posted on the city's website paints a much darker picture. It says the city has responded to more than 200 calls for service for the elevators in the last year, and that breakdowns have increased 20 percent in the last six months. "The elevators have now become unsafe," the notice says. "There is the increased possibility of persons being trapped in a broken-down elevator, needing immediate medical attention and not being able to get it."Additionally, the permit posted in one elevator is two years expired."I'm going to zip up there and hopefully everything wil work out fine," said Andy Jones, of Scripps Ranch, who parked on the 10th floor in a visit to City Hall. "That's a lot of stairs to climb."City spokeswoman Nicole Darling said the elevators are safe and routinely inspected.
